Engine Specifications: 2,681 CC SOHC Flat 6-Cylinder Engine Bosch Mechanical Fuel Injection 210 BHP at 6,300 RPM 5-Speed Type 915 Manual Gearbox 4-Wheel Vented Disc Brakes Independent MacPherson Strut Front Suspension Rear Torsion Bar Suspension About this Car: The Carrera RS 2.7 of 1973 was conceived as a pure homologation special as Porsche was required to build 500 road-going examples to qualify the new car for Group 4 GT racing. The RS was a substantially modified variant of the already potent 911 S and, by increasing displacement, introducing various weight-saving measures, stiffening the suspension and fitting aerodynamic aids, Porsche successfully created an unrivaled high-performance sports car. The overall performance was sensational with 0?60 times under six seconds, 0?100 times under 13 seconds and a top speed of 150 mph. In total, just 1,580 RS models were built, of which 1,340 were the more usable, street- oriented M 472 Touring models. Despite the limited-production run, the Carrera RS 2.7 remains one of the most important and popular road-going Porsches of all time. According to Porsche factory records, this superb Carrera RS 2.7 was completed in May 1973. Originally specified for German delivery, this 911 was finished in Light Yellow (62) ? with green Carrera script ? over a black leatherette interior and optioned with a sport driver?s seat, headrests, muffler skirt and Pirelli tires. The RS was brought into the US in the late 1980s or early 1990s. By 1991, noted Porsche enthusiast Phil Bagley of Klub Sport Racing is recorded as owning the car and the earliest bill on file dates from 1994, when ANDIAL of Santa Ana, California, performed a comprehensive service. While in the US, the RS has been kept in the care of several prominent Porsche collectors, including Dan Rosenthal, Frank Enea and Kim Watkins. The current owner, a knowledgeable collector and vintage racer, was immediately struck by the distinctive appearance of this 2.7 RS and, since adding it to his stable, has performed a great deal of work to ensure that it presents at its very best. The consignor reports that the transmission, clutch, hydraulic chain tensioners, SSI headers, brake system, tires, suspension, fuel-injection pump and cylinder heads have all been rebuilt or refurbished within the last 5,000 miles. As recently as November 2011, Porsche of Monterey performed a PPI inspection of the car and found the engine specifications, leak down and compression to be in proper tolerance. Above all, the consignor has verified that both the engine and gearbox are the correct, matching-numbers components. Today, the RS is presented in its dramatic, factory-delivered color scheme of Light Yellow with green script and is equipped with correct 7- and 8-inch Fuchs wheels, M 472 Touring trim, NOS Bosch H-4 lamps and a stainless steel muffler skirt. Furthermore, the sale of this RS includes a Certificate of Authenticity from Porsche, a tool kit, an owner?s manual and a jack, as well as an original supplemental handbook. Given its authentic details and unique appearance, this race-bred 911 ought to make a splash at local concours, PCA meets and various marque gatherings. For the collector more inclined to participate in spirited driving events, this Carrera RS is an ideal candidate for the finest tours and rallies. The appeal of the 2.7 RS lies not only in its iconic design and unmatched driving pleasure, but also in its outstanding sporting pedigree and historical import. While each surviving Carrera RS remains highly collectible, the wonderful example presented here is among the best of a very desirable breed.
