Excellent mechanicals and cosmetics A Sonauto-Paris delivered 356! Offered with Books, Tools, and Certificate of Authenticity! The Porsche 356 was the company's first production automobile. It was a lightweight and nimble handling rear-engine rear-wheel-drive 2 door sports car, available in hardtop and convertible configurations. Design innovations continued during the years of manufacture, contributing to its motorsports success and popularity, production ended in April of 1965. Originally imported by the famous Sonauto-Paris of France, the Porsche offered here is a superb example of the desirable 356B cabriolet with refined coachwork by Reutter Karosserie. This particular 356 is fortunate to have received a comprehensive, no-expense-spared restoration from GK Restorations in Tallahassee, Florida. Gary Kempton was considered one of the world?s foremost authorities on early Porsche restorations; and even though the work was completed a number of years ago, the Porsche still remains a suitable show-worthy candidate today. The Ruby Red paintwork shows well over tan leather interior and oatmeal German square-weave carpeting - free of the tell-tale signs of ageing. The fit of the seat covers to the padding is also very good. The unique wood-rimmed original steering wheel, instrument faces and bezels were very well restored and nicely detailed. A matching tan Haartz style cloth top compliments with zip-out rear window and tan boot w- bag for folded top. Other equipment includes Talbot rear view mirrors, Leitz style luggage rack with vintage Hartmann suitcase and leather straps, seat belts with clips through eye bolts, Blaupunkt push button radio with correct mesh speaker grilles and Hirschmann red tip antenna, cigar tray and lighter, 5 1-2? w. chrome steel wheels and Porsche crested hub caps. An original driver?s booklet with manual, Blaupunkt manual-warranty card, and factory documents reside in the glove compartment. The luggage compartment, complete with proper jack and tool kit, has likewise been fully freshened to high quality, and features a body-matched spare assembly. Underneath the single grille of the boot lid, the 1963 1600cc engine and bay are well detailed, including all period correct fittings, wiring, clamps, hoses, and necessary components. The undercarriage is tidy and completely solid as expected. The 71? which matches the last two digits of the VIN number are found stamped on the front bonnet hinge and rear deck lid. A 12 Volt conversion was tastefully done and adds to the usability of this great driver. This first rate example drives absolutely beautifully and always starts without hesitation. This particular 356 has undoubtedly withstood the test of automotive time quite well. We encourage close examination of this beautifully presented Porsche. Great open 356?s like this one are becoming very difficult to find and the younger generation of collectors are paying close attention.
