The Type 57 Bugattis were manufactured between 1934 and 1940 with a total of just 546 cars built. One of the best known and effective of the factory bodies fitted to the T-57 chassis was the Ventoux. The very last few cars built during the T-57 production sequence were equipped with a hydraulic breaking system (rather than the more primitive cable brakes of the earlier cars), and a rubber mounted motor. Both of these features greatly improve the cars functionality in the modern day driving environment. This particular chassis was among the last cars built.

The attractive Ventoux bodied cars were two-door, 2+2 seaters, with a heavily raked windshield, and headlight buckets molded into the front fenders with convex lenses. Highlighting these features, this car has been painted in a period typical two-tone tan and brown scheme. This car has sporting, flowing, and aerodynamic shape, with a long, low engine cowl. This car is also features the desirable tachometer option, which many of the T-57s did not.

This example is best described as an unmolested, unaltered car with an older, high quality restoration by Phil Reilly & Co. It runs exquisitely, and has been enjoyed. There are several rock chips, but the body- doors and hinges, and engine covers remain rigid and solid. There is absolutely no door sag when open, and gaps are even throughout. The brakes are extremely effective and the car stops evenly. The engine starts easily, hums at idle, revs freely, and pulls strong. The constant mesh transmission shifts smoothly and easily when compared to other pre-war cars. All the switches and gauges are fully operational. In short, this car has a harmonious and well sorted feel.

Fantasy Junction sold this car in the late 1980s as a beautiful, freshly restored piece in its same configuration. There is little reason to believe this car`s shape has been altered or any of its major components replaced. It is likely that the car was in extremely good condition prior to the restoration. The engine number has not been stamped over multiple times, a common fate among cars of this marquee. The engine turned firewall, a major structural component on these cars, is in well kept, original condition, and looks to have been unmodified though the years.

The interior is also clean and well kept. Like other, elegant, pre-war cars, the simplistic dash of the T-57s adds to the character of the car greatly. The headliner, dash and window wood, front and rear seats and door skin upholstery are all excellent. The carpets show moderate use.

This car had a motor rebuild by the very qualified Phil Reilly & Co. at the time of the restoration. At this time the original fiber cam drive gears, which become suspect with age, were replaced.

In its current mechanical and cosmetic condition, this Bugatti would be perfect for tours, rallies. It would be welcome in virtually any notable historic car rally featuring pre and post war cars. As a 2+2 seater, there is ample room for baggage. Previously it was part of the Blackhawk Collection, and has been owned by several notable Bugatti collectors. As a `no stories` car with excellent historical integrity, we can expect it to appreciate nicely. With this car comes the correct jack and hammer, and spare wheel.
