Metallic Red with Tobacco Interior and Red Carpets

The most desirable of the Aerodyne cars, the Bristol 403 was a truly advanced car for its era. With an aerodynamic body designed by Touring and an upgraded, more powerful, thee-carb, 6 cylinder motor from the 401, and a 4 speed transmission, the 403 was designed to be capable of 100 mph, and to achieve 22 miles per gallon at normal highway speeds. Bristol campaigned the 403 in race events in the early and mid 1950s, with the likes of Tony Crook and Roy Salvadori as team drivers.

Sold new in Switzerland and exported in 2000, this is one of 6 403s known to exist in the US. The current owner, a prominent collector, bought this example at the Barrett Jackson auction in 2000 and has spent much time and resources improving it since. The motor, brakes, suspension, and cooling system have all been rebuilt. Since this work was finished, the car has successfully completed the California Mille three times and the Mille Altuna once, proving its reliability. It is sold as a turnkey car, needing nothing mechanically before being enjoyed. Parts for these cars are readily available through Bristol, Lucas, and locally through Shawn Thomas Automotive.

Cosmetically, this is a very nice example with a good, older repaint. There are several small nicks and chips, none of which detract from the car's appearance. The chrome wheels have been recently refinished, and all the chrome bezels and trim pieces are in good condition.

The interior is in very good condition with correct wood wheel and Smiths gauges. The dash wood has been refinished and is excellent. While the carpets and front seats show minor wear, the rear seats, door skins, and headliner are all excellent. These cars are fitted with a unique sun visors for the front and rear windows, all of which are fully functional. A Becker Grand Prix AM/FM radio has been added.

While this Bristol is a joy to look at, the driver?s experience is its strongest feature. Compliant, responsive, and stable at speed, coupled with huge storage capacity, it is well suited for extended road trips.

Currently, the car sits on period typical Michelins and comes with the lug wrench, tool roll, and some tools.
