Wheelbase: 2,340 mm (92.1 in.) In order to honor the memory of his late son and continue his developmental work on a new V-6 engine, Enzo Ferrari directed Vittorio Jano to finish Dino's project. The Dino was not only Ferrari's first mid-engine production car, but also marked the debut of a new Ferrari-based Dino brand that was entirely devoid of Ferrari badging. With its powerful 2,418 cc engine, and a reported 146 mph top speed coupled with race-inspired handling, the Dino quickly impressed Ferrari fans. *Originally sold by Bill Harrah's Modern Classic Motors This particular 246 GTS, chassis no. 07940, is a very late example of what is considered to be the most desirable Dino model ever produced. A lifetime California Blue plate car, this U.S. spec 246 GTS has been in the careful ownership of its previous owner since the late 1980's with only three owners from new (as recorded in the Dino register). The first owner owned the car until 1980 when he sold it to a Del Mar, CA resident. In 1987 a Jack H. Phillips purchased the car from the second owner and enjoyed the car early on before storing it away until 2012 when we were happy to find it in very original condition. A copy of the original California pink slip issued in 1987 to Mr. Phillips is in the file that accompanies the car. Additional items include a toolkit and copies of the Dino manuals. *Originally delivered in Silver Metallic with Rosso Leather Interior The Dino comes finished in its original colors of Silver with Red leather interior and black Targa top over. Stand out features include factory A-C, electric windows, vintage Nardi steering wheel and proper Michelin tires mounted on original Chromodora wheels. This car was just recently discovered in a California garage; and though the cosmetic aspects of the car have aged, this GTS remains a strong and well suited driver" example. The GTS starts, runs, drives and stops nicely and the engine is very strong. *All correct body number (2894) stampings throughout Recent service includes new hoses, new ignition wires, new door seal, new drive belt, new AC & Air pump belt, Distributor Cap and Rotor, new gear box pan gasket, new engine oil gasket, new engine mounts, Carburetor rebuild, Starter rebuilt, all fluids changed. The Dino was designed by PininFarina but the bodies were constructed by Carrozeria Scaglietti. Since these where hand built cars, Scaglietti issued a body number to each car which was crucial during the assembly process. Impressively, 07940 retains all of its original parts and body numbers today. The factory body number stampings 2894" are found on the inside face of each door (facing door jamb), both rear trunk hinges, both door jamb kick plates, both chrome trim pieces found on the inner leading edge of the doors and on the expansion tank mounting tab. The body lines and panel fit are very straight and even throughout. Dino's have developed into highly sought-after investments that continue to increase in collectability. We hunt for Dino's every day and they are becoming very to find. If you are adding a Dino to your collection we encourage serious consideration of this lifetime California car.
