While everyone knows the Chevelle has a reputation for performance, low-profile cars like this gorgeous Lemon Wood Yellow '66 hardtop fly far enough under the radar to be serious sleepers. With a thumping 454 and a ton of comfort and convenience upgrades, it's a street fighter that you can happily drive cross-country. The paint was applied to a high standard and it shows, with laser-straight panels and impressive attention to detail. Understanding that only 3,522 miles have been travelled since build, everything still appears fresh with almost no signs of use in that creamy paint that's so smooth it's hard to resist touching it. The panel gaps are correct, the sheet metal smooth and that finish looks miles deep. A cowl-induction hood might be a slight giveaway, but it looks good and thanks to the subtle color, it doesn't give anything away. The '66 Chevelle is not known for heavy use of exterior chrome but it's always good for a sleeper to minimize the advertising, so there are no fake SS badges or crossed-flag emblems on the front fenders. Nice! The high level of detail evident elsewhere in this restoration and build is also visible inside. Auto Meter gauges have been fitted into the original dash using a trick billet insert, and the result is flat-out awesome. Black vinyl seating along with the door panels and trim pieces are all fresh, and everything between the carpets and the headliner has been replaced. Comfort options include a tilt wheel, power windows, tinted glass, cruise control, DSF wiper system, anti-theft system and cold A/C. A Kenwood AM/FM/CD stereo pumps through Polk speakers scattered throughout the interior and uses a power antenna to grab the signal. In back, the trunk is neatly finished with a correct mat and full-sized spare with cover. No sleeper is complete without a heaping helping of horsepower, and the GM ZZ454 crate motor thumps out a tire-melting 440 horsepower. An MSD ignition system along with Sanderson ceramic-coated headers, and a Holley Street Avenger carburetor help build power the old-fashioned way. A big Be-Cool radiator has been outfitted to manage temperatures, and the entire engine bay was dressed in a cool satin silver finish that looks like raw aluminum (which much of it is). The transmission is a Richmond 5-speed with overdrive tied to a PST carbon fiber driveshaft and a Moser 12 bolt True Trac 3:42 rear end. No worries underneath, though, because the chassis has been boxed for strength, while the suspension is fortified with Polygraphite bushings, KYB shocks, Eibach springs, and a fat Hotchkis sway bar at each end. 4-wheel discs are a good idea when your car can generate this kind of speed, and they look great behind those subtle, vintage-looking American Racing Torque Thrusts that are ubiquitous enough to not draw too much attention on the street. Subtle, yet beautifully built and insanely fast, this Chevelle embodies the best craftsmanship and a predatory attitude, all wrapped in a beautiful, low-profile wrapper. Call today!
