1907 FIAT ‘Brevetti’ Landaulet Chassis number In 1905 F.I.A.T absorbed the Analdi works creating Fiat-Ansaldi, which in turn became the Societa Brevetti Fiat. From the Societa 1,600 of the Brevetti (meaning patent in Italian) were produced between 1905 and 1912. Of landaulet style, a throwback to the Landau horse drawn carriage, the Brevetti was an ideal car for touring and for town use. It was the first Fiat to be marketed in Italy as a complete car rather than as a chassis. They were very much the vehicle of choice for the rich and famous. This Fiat Brevetti was delivered new to Mexico and bears the plate “FIAT AMERICA LATINA – TORINO”. It was one of two vehicles purchased by Fabrica de Cerveza y Hielo Cuauhtemoc, brewers of Mexico’s popular Carta Blanca beer. It was for the personal use of the Mexican President Porfirio Diaz, who patronised the owners, for when he visited Monterrey. Arriving by train he would then be transferred to the Fiat. In 1957 American financier Liston Zander purchased the vehicle and transported it to his museum in Texas. Zander was a noted collector who also had in his collection the famous Pierce Arrow of US President Woodrow Wilson. Zander’s museum closed in 1969 and the Fiat was then sold to American Formula One racing legend and World Champion Phil Hill who was at that time assembling his own car collection. The vehicle was purchased by in 1983 by its current owner the Peter Briggs Collection from C.A.R. Howard in the UK for the York Motor Museum. It was extensively renovated by D. Hemmings Restorations in the UK before arriving in Western Australia in 1985. This important veteran car of remarkable provenance and historical significance has survived with its original body and original mechanical components for over a century.
