The 1967 Mustang GTA was a one-year-only package that combined the GT equipment group with an automatic transmission. Today, cars like this incredible Burnt Amber example are highly-sought Mustang collectables that are right up there with the early GT fastbacks and the Mach 1s. Code V Burnt Amber is high fashion today, but in 1967, it was incredibly rare. While it may be a love-it-or-hate-it situation for many enthusiasts, there's no arguing that showing up in this car will make you an instant celebrity at any Mustang gathering. It's quite straight, too, and thanks to a long life in a warm climate, rust is a total non-issue and the car still wears all its original sheetmetal. The '67 fastback is one heck of a good-looking car no matter what color it wears, but this one, now rendered using modern paint technology, looks flat-out awesome. Correct white rocker stripes have been faithfully reinstalled, and the original GTA badges let everyone know this isn't a garden-variety Mustang. The GTA included the GT's front fog lamps, and the only notable deviation from stock is a blacked-out tail panel that gives it a road-race look that looks aggressive if not totally correct. Chrome and stainless is in good shape, and all the glass remains unmarked. Black buckets inside are like old friends if you're a Mustang fan, and sliding behind the wheel is like coming home. We're fairly certain that much of the interior is original, including the door panels and seats, and perhaps even the carpets. Again, restraint was the order of the day, and there is no aftermarket steering wheel, no modern gauges, and no giant speakers cut into the door panels. What you get instead is classic styling, from the deep-dish steering wheel to the round instrument pods, to the gorgeous center console, complete with "garage" storage area. The only significant upgrade is an AM/FM/cassette stereo system, but it fits into the dash with no modifications, so you can't really hold it against the builder for wanting more contemporary sounds. The trunk offers a correct mat and spare tire cover, and yes, this is where the upgraded speakers are hiding, but the workmanship is quite good and nobody will complain. The engine is a freshened A-code 289 cubic inch V8, and there's no sweeter sound in the Ford world than one of these at full song. Appropriately finished in Ford Blue engine paint with a chrome air cleaner, someone went the extra mile to make the engine bay look as authentic as possible. Look closely and you'll find correct details like the air cleaner decal, "Powered by Ford" valve covers and black spark plug wires. Power steering and brakes certainly help make this Mustang agile, while the C4 3-speed automatic from which the car gets its name feeds 3.00 gears on a Track-Lok limited slip. And no wheel ever looked better on a Mustang than the bright styled steel wheels this car wears, protected by a set of 215/75/14 blackwall radials. This is an extremely unusual and highly desirable early fastback, and it comes complete with a Marti Report, so you can buy with confidence. Call today!
