If you aren't impressed by this sharp 1956 Chevy 210 Del Ray, then perhaps you've become too jaded to truly enjoy the old car hobby. This off-the-charts slick resto-mod delivers everything its looks promise: performance, comfort, and style. Keeping a two-tone paint job is a no-brainer, but inverting the usual light over dark combination and then finishing it with gorgeous gunmetal gray and pure black gives this vintage Chevy a high-tech, modern attitude. Restoring the chrome on any '50s car can be a daunting task as well, which is probably why so much of it disappears from some customs. But in the case of this coupe, it's all there and everything has been restored nicely. The rear bumper is brand new, while the front bumper was not re-done during restoration, it shows just enough age to start up a conversation but not enough to make people look a second time. Like all the great customs we feature here at Streetside, this one merely puts a slight twist on the original, blending old and new almost invisibly to create something unique. The seats, for example, are original but covered in a gray and black leather setup from Year One. Matching black carpets add continuity, and the black dashboard helps create the illusion of a modern monochromatic passenger compartment. The original gauges remain, but if you look closely at the column-mounted shifter, it now has four slots for the forward gears, including overdrive, which is a neat trick. Other upgrades include a powerful A/C system has been discreetly tucked under the dash, although the original AM radio remains in the center, the dash was not cut up to fit some aftermarket unit. The trunk is modestly finished for such an impressive car, using little more than a rubber mat, but you can easily see that the sheetmetal is unblemished. Power comes from a great-running crate 350 stuffed with flat-top pistons inside cylinders that have a fresh .020 overbore. It's topped with an Edelbrock 4-barrel and exhaling through a set of Flowmaster mufflers. More function than flash, it looks quite OEM which is a compliment of the highest order. The accessories are pulled close to the block and include a powerful alternator, power steering pump, and A/C compressor with R134a refrigerant inside. This one will never lose its cool, either, thanks to a big aluminum radiator and fan that pulls air over the A/C condenser and maintains a chilly atmosphere inside. The transmission is a freshly rebuilt 700R4 4-speed automatic that makes for sharp acceleration and relaxed highway cruising and it seems to be linked to the stock rear end. There are also new front disc brakes and it rides on classic-looking gray Torque Thrusts. You've admired cars like this '56 Chevy at shows for years now, and this is one that you'll be proud to be seen in. Better yet, take it on the road and impress yourself. Call today!
