Engine Specifications: 315 CID Dodge D-500 “Hemi” V-8 Engine Single Carter 4-Barrel Carburetor 230 BHP at 4,300 RPM 2-Speed PowerFlite Automatic Transmission 4-Wheel Hydraulic Drum Brakes Independent Front Suspension Live Rear-Axle with Leaf Springs About this Car: This striking example of Dual Motors’ lauded Dual-Ghia boasts a beautiful restoration and a small number of devoted caretakers, resulting in a handsome and finely presented car. The Dual-Ghia model is famed among automotive enthusiasts for its combination of Chrysler power and Italian exterior styling. This example displays a period-correct D-500 Hemi V-8 engine, and telltale Ghia design elements such as the nuanced grille, delicate tail fins and streamlined fender vents. When sold in 1976 to Don Ryburn of Reno, Nevada, 134 was advertised as a one-owner example, indicating that Mr. Ryburn was just the second caretaker. Six years later, the car found a more lasting conservator when acquired by Bill Pearce of Louisville, Kentucky. A collector who frequently performed his own restorations in his own hobbyist’s garage, Mr. Pearce had already acquired a second Dual-Ghia for the purpose of a restoration, ensuring that he possessed all the necessary components required to return this example to showroom quality. As Mr. Pearce occasionally took on other projects, the restoration of 134 was halted from time to time, resulting in a gradual 10-year period of renewal before it was deemed complete. Painted in candy apple red and fitted with turbine-style wheels mounted with whitewall tires, this Dual-Ghia once again imbued the exceptional quality and mid-century grandeur preferred by the day’s best-known movie stars and entertainers. 134 soon made a strong impact on Louisville’s classic car scene, culminating in a Best in Class award at the 2008 Louisville Concours d’Elegance. Purchased by the consignor in 2010, this sophisticated statement in Italian-American styling has continued to enjoy ideal care, stored in a climate-controlled environment, and has been serviced as needed to remain fresh. The strength of the decade-long restoration continued to pay dividends at the inaugural Concours d’Elegance of Texas in May 2012, where 134 won First Place in the class for American Convertible and Luxury Cars, 1946–1969. This Dual-Ghia remains impressive with details like the polished chrome, matching -numbers soft-top frame, metal-plated instrument panel and the plush tan leather upholstery with red color-matched piping. Unquestionably rare and exactingly restored, this Hemi-powered Dual-Ghia is a testament to Gene Casaroll’s early vision of personalized automotive luxury, a concept later replicated en masse by Detroit’s larger brands.
