Engine Specifications: 2,778 CC Inline SOHC 6-Cylinder Engine Bosch Mechanical Fuel Injection 170 BHP at 5,750 RPM 4-Speed Automatic Gearbox 4-Wheel Disc Brakes 4-Wheel Coil-Spring Suspension with Rear Swing Axle About this Car: The Mercedes-Benz 230–280 SL series continued the sporty open convertible tradition common to the famous German manufacturer. The successors to both the 190 SL and the legendary 300 SL Roadster, today their popularity as classics is growing. Nimble and practical with delicate and well-balanced styling, these Mercedes-Benz have seen increasing prices on the classic car market in recent years, particularly the highly evolved 280 SL model. Presented here is an exceptional example of a 280 SL Pagoda, correctly finished in Tobacco Brown over original MB-Tex Cognac upholstery. Well appointed from new, this US-spec model offers a quality of fit, finish, and detail rarely seen in late-production Pagodas. Great care and consideration were taken while preserving this 280, as it still retains all of its original spot welds, body number stamps on the bonnet, hardtop base, boot box lid, and transmission support. This Mercedes-Benz also features Frigiking A/C, a Becker Europa radio with automatic electric antenna, factory hardtop with garnish mouldings, accessory Coco mats, headrests, one-piece hubcaps, whitewall tires, US bumper over-riders, and automatic transmission. Cosmetically, this SL is outstanding from top to bottom, including spotless three-stage paint and clean brightwork. The interior is show-worthy as well, with its immaculately preserved upholstery and proper factory chalk markings. The consignor reports that all lights, gauges, and switches function as the factory intended. The soft top and color-matched pagoda top are clean and nicely trimmed both inside and out. The undercarriage is highly detailed and immaculate. Top wrenches and the original owner’s manual reside in the glove box and are included in the sale. Both engine and luggage compartments appear as new, accompanied by all of the desired accessories including mats, date-coded spare, jack and lug wrench, tool roll, and very rare Kaco trouble light. Mechanically, the Mercedes-Benz performs very well in a variety of road conditions. The consignor reports that springs, bushings, nut bolts, and shocks were completely replaced or restored back to their original finishes. Acceleration and shifting is also said to be smooth and responsive. The overall look and performance of this SL contribute to an outstanding presentation, and this classic Mercedes-Benz can be driven with confidence on vintage touring events or as a regular driver. Whether open air or comfortable coupe touring, Mercedes-Benz roadsters have long been known to provide years of reliable motoring, and this very special 280 SL has been no exception. Appreciation of such fine examples continues to rise and they command premiums on the collector market. Offered with a collapsible hardtop stand, books, tools, vintage picnic basket, and a car cover, this charming Pagoda is a versatile classic ready for new adventures.
