Engine Specifications: 235 CID OHV Inline 6-Cylinder Engine Single Carter Carburetor 135 BHP at 4,000 RPM 3-Speed Manual Transmission 4-Wheel Hydraulic Drum Brakes Independent Coil-Spring Front Suspension Live Rear Axle with Semi-Elliptical Leaf Springs About this Car: Chevrolet has a long history of building America’s workhorse vehicle: the reliable, dependable pickup truck. Production began around the beginning of WWI with just 900 sales. By the end of the 1930s, Chevrolet had manufactured over half a million trucks. This classic 1949 Chevrolet 3100 Half-Ton Pickup had a factory price of $1,253 and was originally powered by a six-cylinder 216 cid motor, capable of 90 hp. The 3100 model was produced in a variety of body styles, including the panel truck, canopy express, and suburban, in addition to the pickup. This truck is one of Chevrolet’s new “advanced design” vehicles, a line launched on June 28, 1947, as General Motors’ answer to the new post-war world, which was billed as bigger and stronger with a new sleek design. The upgraded model came equipped from the factory with progressive features for a utility vehicle of the period, namely a heater and defroster. The cab was 8" wider and 7" taller than its predecessor, seating three comfortably. The visibility was improved through a larger split windshield, while aesthetics were also enhanced with curvier fenders, a new “alligator” hood, horizontal grille design, and recessed headlights. A testament to the success of this model is Chevrolet’s uninterrupted production of the line through March 1955, with virtually no alterations – a period during which 325,515 trucks were built. While the early provenance of this truck is undocumented, in 2006 this Chevrolet was delivered to Antique Auto Restoration in Seaside, California, for a ground-up restoration. It was concluded in 2011, after a painstaking process that included taking the body down to bare metal, crafting new wood, and installing high-speed gears to facilitate comfortable highway cruising. The restoration crew decided that the truck would benefit from the installation of the newer, more powerful 235 cid motor built in the 1960s – a significant mechanical improvement upon the original engine with its Babbitt main bearings and partial-flow oil system. This upgrade also added 45 hp as well as longevity. The body was repainted blue, and the interior was reupholstered with brown leather and finished with blue carpet. The pickup immediately caught the eye of its current owner and is offered today with approximately 500 miles since the restoration. Antique Auto Restoration recently serviced the truck and attests to its excellent running and driving condition. This striking example of a vintage work companion represents a wonderful opportunity to add a tasteful piece of Chevrolet history to your collection or simply enjoy a comfortable and ultimately stylish drive.
