Engine Specifications: 4.2-Litre DOHC Inline 6-Cylinder Engine Three Twin-Choke Weber Carburetors Estimated 380 BHP 5-Speed Manual Gearbox 4-Wheel Disc Brakes 4-Wheel Fully Independent Suspension About this Car: When it was first launched in 1957, the DBR2 was Aston Martin’s answer to the mighty bigbore Ferraris and Maseratis that were then so dominant. Although the specifications of the DBR2 did not allow it to compete for the World Sportscar Championship, the exquisite Aston Martin found great success in a variety of nonchampionship events throughout Europe, Britain, and the US. While only two examples were built, the DBR2s are now widely regarded as the most beautiful racing machines ever designed and built in England. The basis for this extraordinary DBR2 Re-creation is an ARA chassis, a sturdy, well-built foundation that allowed for great adaptability with regards to the concept, specifications, and distinct demands of this unique project. Paired with this chassis is a glorious Aston Martin engine rebuilt by Hutson Precision Engineering and bored out to a 4.2-litre capacity. In addition to its considerable displacement, this impressive piece of machinery is equipped with bespoke distributor drive and camshaft covers, as well as a brand-new “Aston Martin Casting” 12-plug cylinder head, as was used on the DBR2s and pre-production DB4s. Allowing the straight six to breathe freely is a trio of twin-choke Weber carburetors and a custom fabricated exhaust by Hayward and Scott of Basildon, Essex, a renowned marque specialist well known to high-profile Aston owners. In preparing the powerplant, every effort was made to create as correct a unit as possible, even the water pump was designed to resemble the original DBR2. In addition, the radiator, engineered from original drawings, incorporates a clever dual-core system, with two-thirds reserved for water and one-third for oil. Delivering power to the rear wheels is a proper David Brown manual gearbox reportedly sourced from the ex-John Goldsmith DB4 GT. The running gear, suspension, and disc brakes have been obtained from high-performance Fords, namely a Sierra Cosworth and a Mk II Cortina, selected for their remarkable versatility, generous supply, and longevity. While the chassis and drivetrain are certainly impressive in their specification and high-quality construction, the voluptuous bodywork and incredible attention to detail inside and out are likely to garner the most attention. The accurately proportioned and beautifully finished coachwork is the work of two former Aston Martin body shop employees who put in a considerable effort over a two-year period. Finished in the classic shade of racing green and decorated with registration decals, Lucas lamps, and other period-correct touches, it certainly looks the part. $175,000–$200,000 The car’s stance is just right, sitting on wire wheels with genuine Borrani knock-off spinners and period-correct Dunlop racing tires. Inside the cockpit, the three-spoke woodrimmed steering wheel, full-face Smiths gauges, crackle-finish dashboard, Raydyot-style mirror, and upholstery materials are all in keeping with the original Aston Martin design and have been faithfully duplicated with a great reverence for authenticity. Few re-creations of classic sports racing cars offer the quality, performance, and style of the magnificent automobile presented here. For the Aston Martin enthusiast who has always longed to experience one of the all-time great sports racing cars but does not have the means or desire to part with the eight-figure sum required to purchase one of the originals, this remarkable car offers a most enticing proposition.
