Engine Specifications: 2,195 CC Flat 6-Cylinder Engine Bosch Mechanical Fuel Injection 180 BHP at 6,500 RPM 5-Speed Manual Gearbox 4-Wheel Ventilated Disc Brakes 4-Wheel Independent Suspension About this Car: The hotly tuned “S” variant of the early Porsche 911 was a magnet for aggressive sporting drivers, and examples of the model have often been driven to great extremes, with premium cars today usually having undergone a costly restoration. The resulting scarcity of highly original, unrestored examples is part of what makes this outstanding 1970 S Targa so noteworthy. According to a Certificate of Authenticity from Porsche, this car was delivered on December 1, 1969, finished in Metallic Red paint and trimmed with an interior of black leather upholstery, a handsome combination it continues to wear today. Specified with US equipment, the 911 was outfitted with a limited-slip differential, an increased steering wheel hub, Becken automatic safety belts, ornamental strips on the wheel moldings, an apron for the rear bumper, and an electric antenna and loudspeaker for the Becker Europa radio. As a performance-oriented “S,” this car came standard-equipped with ventilated disc brakes and Bosch fuel injection for the iconic flat-six engine, which in 1970 offered an increase in displacement for even greater power. Maintenance receipts from January 1970 to November 2010 reflect a long life of dutiful care. In April 2000, the original owner sold the car to Maurice Sknazi, at which point it displayed just 30,544 miles. More recently, a renowned collector from Colorado acquired the well-kept car and sold to it to the current owner through a well-known East Coast broker. Currently showing approximately 37,500 original miles, this Porsche continues to offer stunning authenticity and a strong performance. Cosmetically, the car has received only one quality repaint to concours standards, which remains beautifully detailed. Mechanically, it has been consistently maintained since new, with more recent freshening, including the installation of a new shift linkage and bushings in 2006, a new fuel pump in 2008, and a valve adjustment and service in mid-2012. The headlights have also been converted to European-style H4 lamps, an authentic upgrade that provides superior illumination compared to the original Americanspecification bulbs. Eminently suitable for exhibition or driving enjoyment, this invigorating 2.2 S Targa is accompanied by copious maintenance receipts, an original toolkit and owner’s manuals, a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, and registration records dating from 1976 through 2000. The consignor assures that this Porsche remains in “exceptional condition” and is a striking testament to the genius of the late “Butzi” Porsche, whose iconic 911 design has amazingly remained in continuous production to this day.
