Engine Specifications: 1,897 CC 4-Cylinder Engine Twin Weber Carburetors 105 BHP at 5,700 RPM 4-Speed Manual Transmission 4-Wheel Drum Brakes Independent Front Suspension with Coil Springs Rear Single-Joint, Swing-Pivot Axle with Coil Springs About this Car: Near the end of 190 SL production, this Mercedes-Benz was purchased new by a Tucson, Arizona, resident. Outfitted with both a soft and hardtop, this 190 SL was finished in white with a red interior. Of particular note was the original owner’s desire to take European delivery with his new 190 SL. A badge affixed to the car’s grille marks the car’s initial touring abroad, prior to shipment to the US. Joseph Fernades of Phoenix bought the Mercedes-Benz in 1978, allowing it to continue to reside in a warm, dry climate. Proving to be a very original and well-maintained example, the Mercedes received minor restorative work, commissioned by Mr. Fernandes, to further preserve its quality. The 190 SL received a fresh coat of white paint, new leather seat covers, minor chrome replating, and also benefited from a top-end rebuild and the fitting of Weber carburetors to replace the original Solex units. In November of the following year, the recently freshened 190 SL was sold to fellow Arizona resident Lawrence Jacobson. Under Mr. Jacobson’s care and ownership, the Mercedes- Benz received a new canvas top and new carpet in the front passenger area. Furthermore, brake work was undertaken and a new water pump, shifter bushings, a new radiator, and a new intake manifold were fitted. Eventually, the 190 SL changed hands, making its way to the Pacific Northwest where it remained a staple of a comprehensive Mercedes- Benz collection. Purchased in 2012 by a noted northwest collector, the 190 SL has since seen occasional use and the additional outfitting of a period luggage set. Tastefully presented in its original color combination of white over red with a factory- delivered hardtop, this 190 SL remains a pure example of the sporting Mercedes-Benz. Having benefited from long-term ownership in Arizona’s dry climate, this 190 SL retains a very correct and original appearance. The Mercedes-Benz displays just 70,000 miles on the odometer, a figure that is believed to be original, having been sparingly used and well maintained. In addition to the hardtop and luggage, this particular 190 SL is also accompanied by tools and original literature.
