You can be forgiven for not recognizing this 1971 Mercury Cyclone Spoiler tribute, since they're some of the most incredibly rare Ford muscle cars. With big block power, an outrageous Lime Green paint job, and enough performance to humiliate more popular machines, this Cyclone Spoiler is worthy of a close examination. Based on the mid-sized Montego platform, the Cyclone was built for only two years, which is probably why they're so astoundingly rare. They're full of unobtainable parts, but this one seems to be quite accurate in every way that matters, including the gunsight grille and optional hidden headlights. There's a functional ram air hood, front and rear spoilers, and a custom graphics package that really leaves no doubt about this big Merc's intentions. When you use a high-impact color like this, there's really no excuse for shoddy bodywork, so the guys in charge of this one spent a lot of late nights getting those massive quarters straight, aligning the wide doors, and fitting that outrageous pointed hood. The paint is two-stage urethane that looks incredible and can probably be seen from orbit. Somehow, this is a big car that looks small and sporty, but I don't think anyone will be interested in testing its mettle at the stoplight grand prix-it just looks predatory, even sitting still. Mercury's upscale mission shows itself most prominently inside, where comfortable black buckets flank a stylish center console. All of the Deluxe Interior soft parts appear to be new, from the door panels to the headliner, and even the unique dash pad with individual auxiliary gauge pods in the center is in excellent condition. The original AM radio remains in the dash for a correct look, but there's a Pioneer AM/FM/CD stereo head unit stashed under the seat, accessible by remote control. The mid-sized body offers full-sized comfort for five with a spacious and fully restored back seat, plus a massive trunk with spotless floors. If it's horsepower you crave, then this Cyclone Spoiler definitely delivers. The 429 Thunder Jet was an option, and it just so happens that the D1VE 460 in this one looks exactly like that vaunted big block hammer. With an .030 overbore, this gnarly V8 makes the kind of torque that more than lives up to the legends. The heads are real C8VE 429 ThunderJet pieces, and it's topped by an Edelbrock Performer intake and 750 CFM carb. Exhaust duties are managed by a set of Crites headers and a custom dual exhaust system that sounds amazing. The engine has also been detailed to look like a stocker, so nobody will know what lurks within. There's Ford Blue paint, a correct ram air air cleaner, finned Cobra Jet valve covers and even accurate little stuff like reproduction hoses and clamps and a correct ignition set. The transmission is a heavy-duty C6 3-speed automatic spinning a rugged 9-inch full of 3.50 gears on a Traction-Lok limited slip. Classic Magnum 500 wheels have never looked better and wear staggered 215/70/15 front and 275/60/15 rear BFG radials. An incredible footnote in FoMoCo performance history that is sure to generate a ton of attention everywhere it goes. With plenty of horsepower to live up to the look, this amazing Mercury will wow them at shows and on the street. Call today! This vehicle is located in our Charlotte showroom.
