Known History

Chassis No. 672923

This is a normal production, left-hand-drive, North American Market, XK120 OTS (Open-two-seat) or what is commonly referred to as a "Roadster." The original order for this particular vehicle was submitted by Charles Hornburg Jaguar America, the official West Coast Distributor for Jaguar vehicles from their Los Angeles, California offices. The order was placed by Hornburg themselves for regular retail inventory and sale. It was not built on a specific client order.

Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust records record that chassis 672923 was completed on September 25th, 1952. The exterior was initially finished in silver which was complemented by a red interior and black soft-top assembly. Delivery from the Factory took place on October 3rd, 1952.

Upon delivery to Hornburg Jaguar in Los Angeles, the Jaguar was offered for retail sale. The sale took place in early May of 1953 when it was sold as a new car to Beverly Hills, California resident, Philippe Gabrielle Spragg. This Jaguar was then issued 1951 Series, California "black and yellow" License plates "1A87813" with a 1952 Model Year Tag. This Jaguar was also registered and issued a title on May 12th, 1953 in Mr. Spragg's name. The title lists the date first sold as 1952 and the model year as 1953. The vehicle I.D. number shown on the title was the engine number "W6082-8" rather than the chassis number. This was a standard procedure for most vehicles in the State of California until 1956 when the chassis numbers were used most frequently during the license and registering of newly sold vehicles.

This Jaguar remained with Mr. Spragg until October of 1979 when it was sold by him to the second owner, Mr. Richard Bell Shipherd of Fresno, California. 1979 series California "blue & yellow" plates "401 FMW" were then issued on October 8th, 1979 to Mr. Shipherd. The car was now repainted completely in white and had a black interior and still retained the original black soft-top at the time of his purchase. Mr. Shipherd retained this Jaguar until the early 1990s when it joined a growing private museum collection in Houston, Texas. It was not road registered in Texas and remained un-used and un-driven by the Texas Dealer/Collector for the entire time it was there.

This XK120, remained in Houston until 2007, when it again returned to California, this time to just her third private owner, a young lady in our own home-town of La Jolla, California. In July of this year, we purchased this Jaguar from her and began an extensive service and refurbishment program to address the twenty plus years the car had remained in storage un-driven. Full services and the correct original brakes have been fitted back to this both rust and accident free example. An extra set of new, optional wire wheels is included with the purchase of this Jaguar. The car has had both carburetors rebuilt and synchronized and the valves have been adjusted. All the bushings in the suspension have been replaced and the car has absolutely perfect mechanics and road manners. All services are completely current and up to date and new tires have just been fitted.

This is an extremely "dry" zero rust, zero accident ever, fully documented from new, all "matching numbers" three-owner from new vehicle with beautiful fit and finish complemented by older paint and a well kept and tidy interior.
