Engine Specifications: 331 CID OHV V-8 Engine Dual 4-Barrel Carburetors 270 BHP at 4,800 RPM 4-Speed Hydra-Matic Transmission 4-Wheel Hydraulic Drum Brakes Independent Front Suspension with Coil Springs Live Rear Axle with Semi-Elliptical Leaf Springs About this Car: “Some cars have chrome, other cars have a lot of chrome, and then there’s the Eldorado...” Thus, the consignor of this breathtaking 1955 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible describes the car that was purchased new by his mother directly from General Motors Los Angeles branch of the Cadillac Motor Car Division and has remained with the family until today. Completed in 2006, this vehicle has undergone a comprehensive “frame-off, 100-point restoration” by the award- winning restoration firm The Creative Workshop in Dania Beach, Florida, as a tribute to his mother’s memory. The body was repainted in its original color of Silver Metallic Gray (code 92), and the interior – covered in black leather with silver buttons (trim code 97) – and consumed eight new hides. A new black convertible top was fitted, and the car is equipped with the original correct “Parade boot,” a curved fiberglass panel that covers the folding top in its retracted position. This Eldorado was factory equipped with power steering, power brakes, four-way power seats, electric windows, Autronic-eye high-beam control, and a signal-seeking radio. The striking 15” diameter “Saber-spoke” forged wheels are mounted with wide whitewall tires. Under the hood resides Cadillac’s powerful 331 cid V-8, fed by a pair of Rochester four-barrel carburetors, which produce 270 bhp, 20 more than any other Cadillac of the day. Cadillac, under the guidance of the exuberant Harley Earl’s Color and Design office at GM, had embarked on a course of making Cadillac the most distinctive and recognizable cars on the road. Built on the 129” wheelbase of the Series 62, the 1955 Eldorado measured an impressive 223” bumper to bumper, with a curb weight of 4,980 lbs. Externally, it gained a pair of distinctive, high, slender tail fins adorned with a foursome of bullet-shaped tail and reversing lights, a marked change from the modest fishtails that had been introduced a few years earlier. The hood is adorned by the Eldorado’s signature gold-plated vee and crest, with the name “Cadillac” on the flanks in gold script and highlighted by a “winged Mercury” in chrome on the front of the hood. The front radiator grille is set off by twin chrome bullet-shaped Dagmars affectionately named after the American 1950s television actress Virginia Ruth Egnor, stage name “Dagmar.” Of 3,950 examples built in 1955, this car is described by the consignor as one of only 47 survivors listed in the 2013 Cadillac & LaSalle Club directory. This amazing Eldorado received the coveted Chairman’s Award at the 2007 Hilton Head Island Concours d’Elegance, was First in Class at the 2008 AACA National Winter Meeting in Melbourne, Florida, and was nominated as an Outstanding Vehicle for the AACA’s 2008 show year. It also scored at the 5th Annual Boca Raton Concours d’Elegance, and has been featured in a collector car magazine and a television commercial. This car is supplied with its original owner’s manual, 1955 purchase invoice, spare tire and tools, framed and glazed period Cadillac Eldorado convertible ad, and correct 1955 Florida license plates. With ownership of only one family from new, outstanding provenance, and condition, this Cadillac is sure to delight even the most discerning collector.
