Engine Specifications: 3,164 CC SOHC Per-Bank Flat 6-Cylinder Engine Bosch Motronic Fuel Injection 231 BHP at 5,900 RPM 5-Speed GETRAG G50 Manual Gearbox 4-Wheel Vented Disc Brakes Fully Independent Suspension with Torsion Bars and Shock Absorbers About this Car: For the 1989 model year, Porsche elected to celebrate one of its most legendary road cars, the 356 Speedster, by introducing a limited-production modern variation based on the celebrated 3.2 911 Carrera platform. The unique car successfully captured the character of the original with a lightened body; strictly two-seat cockpit; heavily raked and lowered windscreen within a thin aluminum frame; and a hard, color-matched panel covering the soft top. Considered one of the best all-around 911s ever produced, all were equipped with the Turbo-specification chassis and benefited from top-spec brakes, with cross-drilled discs and large four-piston calipers. Production of the 911 Carrera Speedster was limited to just over 2,100 examples, adding to its rarity and desirability. Constructed in May 1989, this Speedster was first sold to a US customer, making it one of 819 such cars bound for North America. Finished in Guards Red and upholstered in tan leather with a black soft top, it is equipped with air-conditioning; an upgraded, OEM-type Becker in-dash CD player; and the aggressive turbo-look body. Service records indicate that the Speedster was kept in California by its first owner until 2008 when it was sold with 22,000 miles to a Georgia resident. In mid-2012, the Porsche was acquired by the consignor, who performed necessary maintenance and repairs at a cost of $4,300. The car is currently described as being in excellent running order. This well-preserved Speedster is also supplied with its owner’s manual and Speedster supplement, service book, tool roll, first aid kit, warning triangle, and jack. The option list for this Speedster further indicates that it was built to California specifications and that it was part of the Tourist Delivery program, having been initially delivered in Europe. Further adding to this model’s desirability among collectors, the 911 Carrera Speedster was the last Porsche model to be built at Porsche’s old factory in Stuttgart. This rare and collectible 911with its legendary build quality, robust power, and impeccable road manners, is in many ways the ideal sports car. It would complement any collection of Porsches or modern sports cars, and is sure to be well received at any PCA or Porsche club meet. This modern update of a true Porsche icon was built to connect its owner with the simple motoring ideals on which the company was founded over 60 years ago, and it is well on its way to becoming a classic itself.
