The Jaguar XJS was a luxury grand tourer produced from 1975 through to 1996 and replaced the E-Type. Although it never had quite the same sporting image, the XJS was a competent grand tourer, and actually more aerodynamic than the E-Type. In total 115,413 models were produced during a 21 year life span; the last of which came off the production line on 4th April 1996. Originally, power came from the Jaguar V12 petrol engine with a choice of a manual or automatic transmission, but the manual was soon dropped. V12 engined cars were unusual at the time with notable exceptions coming from Italian luxury sports car makers Lamborghini and Ferrari. The specification of the XJS compared well with both Italian cars; it was able to accelerate to 60mph in 7.6 seconds and had a top speed of 143mph. From 1988, a special XJR-S version of the V12 5.3-litre car was produced by JaguarSport, a separate company owned jointly by Jaguar and TWR. This car had a distinctive body kit, special alloy wheels and suspension together with a number of handling improvements. The first 100 of these cars were termed 'Celebration Le Mans' to commemorate Jaguar's 1988 win at Le Mans. Between 1988 and 1989 a total of 350 XJR-S cars were produced with the 5.3-litre engine.
This is a one owner Jaguar XJR-S Le Mans that was first registered on 26th October 1998 having been supplied by Doves of Croydon. Finished in Tungsten with magnolia and number 075 of a limited production of 100, this XJR-S Le Mans is a rare example and the 39,000 miles is believed to be correct, although cannot be warranted. Equipped with the usual refinements expected from a Jaguar; electric seats, air conditioning, leather trim etc, this is an XJR-S that will stand out from the crowd and would grace any collection. The car comes supplied with a V5 registration document, an MoT test certificate valid until 24th September 2013 and road tax until July 2013. To find a 1988 Jaguar XJR-S is unusual in itself; to find a one owner example with only 39,000 miles is unique.
