Manufactured by the Italian industrial giant Innocenti, the Lambretta motor scooter mobilised an entire generation of Italians in the immediate post-war years. The scooter gained instant acceptance everywhere, its cleanliness and convenience in particular appealing to those who did not have the inclination, time or money for the larger motorcycle. Scooters would eventually surpass their strictly utilitarian origins to become an integral part of British youth culture in the 1960's. The 'Li' series in 1958 is widely recognised as one of Lambretta's all-time greats and housed an entirely new engine in modern bodywork with the Series III being readily distinguishable by its handlebar-mounted headlight and 'slimline' styling; embodying what for many enthusiasts is the definitive Lambretta look. Owned for the last two years by a respected local collector and restorer, this striking example benefits from the fitting of the much sought-after SX engine as well as a number of after-market items such as a rear seat rest and spare wheels holder, commuter glove box, front bumper and additional chromium accents. Supplied with a V5C and Vintage Motor Scooter Club dating certificate, this represents an extremely well presented example.
