1970 Pontiac GTO, check. Numbers-matching, check. Restored in its original color combination, check. Factory A/C, check. Documented, check. Need I go on? Hard to go wrong with dazzling code 75 Cardinal Red on your GTO, since you're not going to worry about keeping a low profile anyway, right? With a recent and high-quality restoration, this car is truly worthy of its investment-grade status with exceptionally nice bodywork. Starting with a clean, original car makes things a big easier, but to get cars to this level still takes commitment and financial fortitude. They probably weren't this nice when they were new-note that the Endura front bumper is the same color as the body, which was rare back in the day, and gaps and panel alignment are quite good, suggesting a lot of time invested in getting it right. The GTO looks fast just sitting still, but the wing on the deck lid certainly helps and twin snorkels on the hood are practically a Pontiac trademark. As was typical of GTOs, the badging is simple and almost subtle, with correct badges on the front grille, fenders, and trunk. Not much chrome was left on the redesigned Goat, but the things that remained - like the rear bumper - are in excellent condition, just as you'd expect. It also sports a correct code 254 red bucket seat interior which is bright enough to require eye protection when you get in for the first time. I personally love how it looks, with comfortable buckets and the federally-mandated headrests giving it a sporty look that suits the GTO just fine. There's also a center console with enough woodgraining to suggest that Pontiac wasn't about building down to a price, and it straddles the luxury/performance boundary with ease. The car features factory A/C, which has been upgraded to R134a refrigerant, as well as an AM/FM radio with an iPod interface that looks extremely authentic. Of course the seats, carpets, dash pad, and door panels are new, and even the trunk is neatly finished with a reproduction mat, full-sized spare, and a matching cover. The engine is the original, numbers-matching 400 cubic inch Pontiac V8 rated at 350 horsepower. Interestingly, this engine has never been opened - it simply never needed it, proof of the care-free and well-maintained existence that this car has been treated to. Although the internals of this massive powerplant are original, the engine bay was restored during the cosmetic restoration and the overall effect is quite impressive. It wears its Pontiac Turquoise paint with pride, sports a chrome air cleaner lid and valve covers (because Pontiac knew its customers would be showing off their engine bay), and has been expertly detailed for show. A new carburetor helps it start almost instantly and with 445 pounds of torque on tap, cracking the throttle delivers acceleration RIGHT NOW. The transmission is a rugged TH400 3-speed, the only automatic that would stand up to the Poncho's torque, and there's a 12-bolt out back. The undercarriage is clean and solid, with a dual exhaust system with Flowmasters that sounds incredible at idle and on the roll. Look again at those floors-cars this clean just don't exist in nature, but someone ensured this one stayed out of the elements its entire life. Even the handsome Rally II wheels are in excellent shape, now wearing 215/60/14 BFGoodrich T/A radials. Heavily documented, including the original bill of sale, Protect-O-Plate, owner's manual, original shipping receipt, and maintenance receipts, this is the GTO you've been waiting for. Call today!
