It was a big surprise when Lamborghini presented the " Cheetah " at the Geneva Motor Show in 1977. It was tested by the US army in California and completely destroyed. Lamborghini revisited the idea with an off-road vehicle project car in 1981. It was called LM001 and fitted with an AMC engine mated to an automatic Chrysler transmission. The LM002 succeeded it in 1986, propelled by the legendary Countach V12 engine.

This LM002 was destined for the American market but was delivered new in Belgium and registered by the first owner on 28 June 1990. It then passed into the hands of the second owner, M. Marc Beckers. The current owner is an avid enthusiast of the marque and the LM002 model in particular. Already the owner of a model with carburettors, he came across this example in 2003. The purchase invoice signed by Marc Beckers, dated 18 April, is in the file. After much working through French administration, the car was homologated on 21 December 2004 in France. The comprehensive history file, including the certificate of conformity, signed by Valentino Balboni, will be passed on to the new owner. While in the hands of the current owner, the car has been maintained by the respected Lamborghini specialist Tony Sissini, near Paris. Much work has been carried out on the mechanical components, wiring, suspension and brakes. The complete file of invoices is available for inspection before the sale and will become the property of the future owner. This LM002 has been regularly and scupulously maintained, the owner tolerating nothing less. This example runs very well, and both the body and the interior are presented in good condition, including the white leather upholstery.

This model, the LM002, an exception in Lamborghini production, is the only 4x4 built and was generally destined for a Middle-Eastern clientèle looking for a car with unrivalled off-road capabilities that could be driven in the sand. The LM002 was the forerunner of numerous 4x4s built by luxury marques today and stood out at the time as an emblematic model, with its high performance 5.2-litre V12 producing 420 bhp. With just 301 examples built, it is highly sought after today, and as its value rises, it has become an excellent investment for an enthusiast of the Lamborghini marque or for someone who simply wants a car that is exclusive and unusual.
