Highly collectible and enjoyable, this late- production 1964 Porsche 356 is an original matching-numbers example powered by the top-specification 95 hp “SC” engine. In addition, with its standard four-wheel disc brakes and attractive T-6 body, it marks the ultimate expression of Porsche’s cornerstone 356 concept. During the prior owner’s tenure, the 356 SC was restored and refinished in its original- specification Signal Red exterior finish with new tan leather upholstery replacing the original black interior. The engine was rebuilt and the Porsche has covered approximately 16,000 miles since. The consignor, a discerning private collector from New Hampshire, acquired the car in early 2013 from the prior Vermont-based owner. Following the purchase, the 356 SC was comprehensively reviewed, sorted, and detailed by Porsche 356 marque expert Randy Currier of Holderness, New Hampshire, using only correct and top-quality name-brand parts. Among the items addressed, the engine was tuned, the valves were adjusted, the fuel system was fitted with all-new fuel lines and filters, the Solex carburetors were rebuilt and tuned, the cooling-fan drive belt was replaced, and both the motor oil and oil filter were changed. The ignition system benefits from a new condenser, distributor cap, and rotor, and a new battery was installed as well. A primer reservoir supplied by Precision Matters assists in cold-starting ease. New brakes were installed, the suspension was fitted with new kingpins and kingpin links, and all shock absorbers were replaced, as were the rubber axle boots. The floor pans were repaired as necessary and new structural longitudinal members and support elements were installed. The body was evaluated and then carefully improved with particular attention paid to ensuring correct panel fitment and gaps. The signature twin engine vent grilles were replaced with correct new items, and the car’s bright trim elements were removed and replaced as necessary. All wheels were powder-coated for a durable finish and correct original hubcaps with the Porsche crest were fitted. Inside, the seat-adjustment tracks and seat belts were restored, tan leather hold-down straps for the front-mounted spare tire and luggage shelf were installed into their respective locations, and correct floor mats were added. Once completed in fall 2013, the entire Porsche was professionally detailed. The consignor reported that the 356 is a delight to drive with ample power delivered by the high-specification “SC” engine. He stated that the transmission is working beautifully with effective synchromesh action through all gears. Accompanied by tools, a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, an original Blaupunkt radio, and invoices documenting the recent work performed, this automobile is simply a well-sorted and finely presented example throughout.
