Known History

1973 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 "Daytona"

This Ferrari Daytona was a normal production “North American” market vehicle ordered new by M. Popovich for delivery in Canada. “Destinazione Popovich.” The car was completed in May of 1973 with assembly sequence number 1214 on Scaglietti body / job order number 1337. Standard equipment was fitted including air-conditioning. Original and current colors are standard red exterior with sold black (no inserts) interior. According to Ferrari's production records, the original engine for this Daytona was "B2770" and the transaxle was "1338" with the standard final drive ratio of 3.33:1. The original "born with" or matching numbers engine and transaxle remain fitted to this Ferrari today.

This car was originally imported new by Popovich for road US in Canada who specified in addition to Canadian delivery that the car was to be fitted with five Borrani wire wheels. The car passed through the hands of the subsequent Canadian owners; Ray Smela, Gorman and then to Jeff Dickenson in 1978.

The car was show frequently by Dickenson in several local and national Concours events. Most notably of these was at the 1982 Ferrari Club of America Annual National Meet in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. (Red with black interior and recorded with Ontario registration.

In June of 1990 the car was listed to be offered at the Guernsey’s Auction in Greenwich, Connecticut but not sold.

In November of 1990 this Ferrari was offered for sale by Jeff Dickenson of Brampton, Ontario, Canada. Described as “Red with black leather interior. Many first place concours awards including FCA National in Elkhart Lake. Original Borranis, manuals and tool kits.” The car was also listed for sale in the November 1990 issue of the du Pont Registry with similar information.

Entered in the 1992 National Ferrari Concours, Grand Rapids, MI/USA by Dickenson and awarded a 3rd in Class.

In 1997 the car was offered for sale and described as “Red with black interior. Original right down to the original paint (could use paint job), has had minor touch-up work over the years. Warehoused for the last few years, needs attention from simply sitting. (Still owned by Jeff Dickenson.)

In March of 1999 this Ferrari was offered for sale at RM Classic Cars Amelia Island Auction. Catalog descrition stated “First in Elkhart Lake Ferrari Nationals in 1991 and then a third at the Michigan Ferrari Nationals in 1992. Air and Borranis. Complete services updates performed by Slattery and then entered in the January 2008 Cavallino Classics where it was awarded a “Gold” award.

In February of 2008 offered for sale by Michael Grande, Knoxville, TN/USA. Red with black interior. A great original car! Never restored, yet still gold medal at Cavallino 2008. Engine is strong with no leaks or smoke. Mechanically 100%. Interior is as original. Everything works. 54,200 miles. (FML 3304).

Grande went on to state:

“One of the most well known and fully documented late production Ferrari Daytona Coupes in existence. No known issues, damage, accidents or rust ever. Not restored but always beautifully maintained without consideration for time or expense.”

This Ferrari was then traded to our company in June of 2008 and on March 20th, 2009 sold to a prominent collection in the Pacific Northwest. The documented mileage at the time of the sale was just under 55,000 original miles. Over the next five years the car was given services and maintenance work at Butch Dennison's Dennison International. The owner covered almost exactly 10,000 kilometers during his ownership spending some $25,000 on preventative maintenance during that time frame that included the recent fitting of a compete Factory original ANSA exhaust system at great care and expense.

Today this rust and accident free Daytona is being offered for sale complete with books, full history and tools as delivered new.
