Known History

THERE IS A PENDING SALE ON THIS VEHICLE. ONLY BACK UP OFFERS AND POSITIONS ARE BEING CONSIDERED AT THIS TIME.

This particular BMW M1 was sequentially the 6th to last identified M1 of a total of 460 assigned VIN numbers. It was the first of six spare-partially completed M1s that were all completed on February 27th, 1981. The full list of these final six M1s is as follows:

*WBS599100* *04301455*

*WBS599100* *04301456*

*WBS599100* *04301457*

*WBS599100* *04301458*

*WBS599100* *04301459*

*WBS599100* *04301460*

These final six M1s were all intended as replacement vehicles for private teams to replace those damaged in the pro-car series as well as those that were FIA Group 4 and 5 race cars that were damaged beyond repair in racing. Only this particular M1, *WBS599100* *04301455* was not converted and remained a pure road-car as such and instead was the sole example retained internally by BMW for marketing, promotional and follow-on test work after the M1 program officially came to an end.

This M1 remained in storage for many years with BMW but would occasionally be put on display at various times and functions by BMW for additional publicity purposes. In December of 2003, it became the vary last officially sold M1 by BMW when it was purchased by a Japanese Museum Collection. At the time of import the car had covered just over 1,000 kilometers since new. While essentially remaining in stock configuration the car sported a color band of light and dark blue and red over the otherwise all white coachwork. The car also featured an innovative and more functional Motech designed dash and monitoring system that is unique to this vehicle.

Additional Japanese records indicate that the car was road-registered for regular public use with plates "350 22" and that total mileage on March 27th, 2009 was 1,300 kilometers and that on June 2nd 2011, mileage was now recorded as 1,900 kilometers.

A Japanese Export Title was approved and issued on February 25th of this year and the vehicle is now in transit to Long Beach, California and it is expected to arrive on the 21st of this month.

This is one of the most interesting and noteworthy M1s to ever come up for sale. It is also regarded as one of the lowest mileage examples in the world with zero rust or accident damage anywhere ever. It will be sold with all services completed, current and up to date.
