Debuting in 1966, the Oldsmobile Toronado was the largest front-wheel drive car since the Cord of the 1930`s. The Toronado was a technological tour de force, and it subsequently was named the Motor Trend car of the year for its numerous innovations. For 1967, Toronado was updated with disc brakes and eggcrate front grille, but was otherwise largely unchanged. The Toronado was even campaigned at Pikes Peak and was the stock car champion in 1966, 1967, and 1968.

Factory options fitted to this car include power windows, six-way power seats, `Comfortron` climate control incorporating air conditioning, AM/FM stereo radio, front seat headrests, power door locks, as well as tilt and telescoping steering wheel. Toronados were fitted with 425 cubic inch V-8`s quoted at 385 horsepower. This particular car has had a mechanical rebuild less than 5,000 miles ago including the engine, transmission, brakes, and suspension. This car is also emblazoned by bold graphics to honor the Pikes Peak victories. They are removable, should you find them to be not quite understated enough.

This particular car has been extremely well-preserved and it still in excellent original cosmetic condition. It has been in California since new and is still wearing black plates. In fact, until the late 1990`s it had been in the same family since new. The ultimate testament to its remarkable originality and condition is the fact that it was featured in the 2003 Hemmings Classic Oldsmobile Calendar. A copy is included with the car.

On the whole, there are no major cosmetic blemishes; the paint is slightly dull, but there are no dents, rust, or dings of significance, a remarkable feat after nearly forty years. The panel fit is great and is consistent with the fact that the car has never been apart or had any paintwork. The chrome is free of significant deterioration, but it exhibits some pitting and one imagines that it isn`t quite as shiny as it was in 1967.

The interior is excellent time-warp condition. The seats, door panels, headliner, carpets, gauges etc. are all beautifully preserved, and look as though they have considerably less than 70,000 miles on them, let alone forty years! The car is fitted with four seats belts, as well as four aftermarket JVC speakers in the doors.

This is a rare opportunity to acquire a totally unmolested and original California example of a historically important car.
