Rosso Corsa with Black Leather Interior

The 4-cam 275GTB is in many ways the holy grail of road-going classic Ferraris. Impossibly beautiful, rare, and mechanically sophisticated, it embodies everything that makes classic Ferraris sought-after and unique. The first 275`s appeared in 1964, employing an enlarged 3.3 litre version of Ferrari`s venerable Colombo-designed V12. The car featured many innovative features not found in the earlier 250, including a rear mounted transaxle for improved weight distribution, independent rear suspension, and 5-speed transmission. Both three and six carburetor version were available, and the cars were continuously developed, as was Ferrari`s convention. In 1966, the definitive street version of the 275 appeared, the 275 GTB/4. In addition to employing the even more beautiful `long nose` body and rigid torque tube enclosed drive shaft introduced partway through the 2-cam model`s production, the big news was the dual overhead cam cylinder heads. In conjunction with the six carburetor setup that was now standard, the dual overhead cams allowed power climb to the magic 300hp mark.

This particular example was in California for many years before being sold to an owner in Switzerland in 1983. The car remained in storage for about twenty-five years before being sold and re-imported to the United States. Following its return to the States, it was sympathetically recommissioned, which included the rebuilding of the shock Koni shock absorbers, replacing hard and soft brake lines, adjusting the carburetors, and refinishing the steering wheel. The compression has been recently checked and is consistent across the board.

The car is cosmetically presentable with some work performed during the car`s previous time in California. The paintwork is presentable and attractive, though close inspection reveals some signs of aging and wear. The body is quite straight and free from structural corrosion. The chrome is on the whole nice though there are some areas of deterioration and haze. The glass and lights are in very good order, with the original Scaglietti headlamp covers still in place, in addition to the Carello headlamps. The windscreen shows light wear and aging, and the remaining glass is excellent.

The interior is predominantly original and has been beautifully preserved. All components are in great shape, including the dashboard, switches, instruments, door panels, carpets, and headliner. The leather seats display some patina but nothing excessive, and are not in need of any attention.

The trunk is in very fine shape and includes the jack with jack bag. The engine compartment is presentable and tidy, and the original washer bag and airbox hardware are still in place.

The car drives well with good power, minimal smoke, and fantastic transaxle, which is crisp, smooth, and has great second gear. The brakes are very good as well, having been recently serviced.

This is a rare opportunity to acquire a matching numbers example of the legendary 275 GTB/4. Just 350 were built, and thanks to their combination of mechanical sophistication and beauty, values have always been high. Worth considerably more than any other regular production closed Ferrari, values have appreciated dramatically in recent years. Regardless of values, they are very special cars. More sensuous and aggressive than the other sweethearts of the classic Ferrari range, the 330GTC and 365 GTC, the 275 GTB/4 will always be a top drawer blue chip collectible that is a pleasure to behold and use.
