Iso was a motor cycle maker which, in 1953, started the bubble car craze with its ‘Isetta‘ which was made under licence in Germany (BMW), France (VELAM), Spain (Borgward-Iso), and Brazil (Iso-Romi). After 1955 (the year an Isetta won its class in the Mille Miglia!) the firm made no more cars until 1962 when it came up with a design as far removed from a bubble car as it is possible to imagine: the Rivolta. A four seater GT with a 5.4 litre Chevrolet engine. It had styling by Bertone, disc brakes on all four wheels, coil spring and double wishbone front suspension and a de Dion rear axle. The Rivolta‘s platform chassis was the work of Giotto Bizzarrini, the designer of, among others, the Ferrari 250 GTO and the Lamborghini 350GT. The Rivolta had a top speed of 142 mph and could cover 0-60 in eight seconds, which made it one of the fastest cars of its class in the world. This excellent example is just one of 26 righthand drive examples built and was the first of three fitted with the popular Power-Glyde automatic gearbox. It was the car also used by Autocar, The Sporting Motorist and Autosport as their test car. Between 1990 and 1995, it underwent a comprehensive restoration to its current superb condition. It has recently been shown at the Top Gear Classic & Sportscar shows at the NEC in Birmingham as well as a full road test in Classic & Sportscar in May, 1995. (A copy is enclosed in the accompanying file). Complete with 7 months MoT test certificate, photographic re-build and a comprehensive history file, this rare and striking sports car has had the hard work done and simple needs a B-road upon which to flex itself.
