A 1967 Ford Mustang Convertible built as a Shelby tribute vehicle with many improvements, including conversion to Right Hand Drive. Not to be confused with other Mustangs, this is virtually a brand new car rebuilt with all existing parts replaced and improved.

Many have said that Carroll Shelby was the greatest single influence on America‘s racing posture in the post WWII period. He revitalized the image of American road-racers in Europe and with no engineering background, he created a race car which ended Ferraris domination of the World‘s Manufacturing Championship.

In 1962 he created the legendary 289 Cobra that sent every other race car into oblivion. Cobras became synonymous with winning in SCCA competition and frightening Ferrari in GT class in international competition

In 1965, Shelby Mustangs made their debut sparking a significant battle by Detroit for horsepower and bravado. The GT350R was born after Shelby was asked by Ford USA to enhance the performance of its Ford Mustang for racing purposes. At his California factory, Shelby took delivery of 100 Mustang fastbacks with HiPo small block V8‘s, manual transmissions, and 9" rear ends.

He transformed them to performance race cars by tuning the suspension after lowering the front control arms exactly 1", fitting heavy duty front and rear anti-sway bars, as well as Koni shock absorbers. He added an export brace and monte carlo bar to the engine bay for increased support. The steering and brakes were also modified for racing purposes.

The engine power was increased by adding an Aluminum manifold combined with 4 barrel carburetor, Tri-Y Headers, and a performance exhaust system. Dressed up with finned cobra valve covers.

The 1965 GT350R dominated American racing circuits and made a name for itself winning the SCCA B production championship in 1965, 1966, and 1967. Ford wanted to put a version on the street known as the GT350.

The GT350 was essentially a detuned and reworked R Model which catapulted Ford Mustangs into the world of high performance road cars. In 1967, Ford produced a limited number of convertible versions previously unavailable, as the 65 and 66 cars were all fastbacks.

In recognition of his brilliance, this particular vehicle has been rebuilt with all of the Shelby modifications, plus one or two improvements not available to him in his day. Starting with the body, an original 1967 Mustang was sand blasted to bare metal, and rebuilt with many new panels replacing any rusted or damaged existing parts.

Finished to a very high standard in the traditional Shelby colours of silver blue and white stripes, a brand new custom blue and white interior is fitted, with wood grain dash and steering wheel. A brand new electrically operated white convertible top is also fitted, with matching top boot cover.

Shelby tuned suspension has been adhered to with brand new upper and lower control arms, (lowered 1"), Front and rear anti-sway bars, performance springs and Koni Shock Absorbers. The engine bay is a perfect tribute to Shelby, with black finned Cobra Valve Covers and matching Oval Air Cleaner, a curved Monte Carlo Bar, as well as the export brace.

The engine itself is a fully rebuilt 302 Windsor small block, rebored and machined, with new pistons, bearings, timing chains and gaskets. Fed by a new 600cfm Edelbrock 4 barrel carburetor and aluminum manifold. The headers are the Tri-Y ones used by Shelby connected to a new 2 ½" performance exhaust system which gives the car the throaty noise that seems just right. Also fitted with a new electronic billet distributor and ignition.

The transmission selected makes this car a pure delight to drive. A fully overhauled Tremec T5, five speed transmission with Hurst short throw shifter. Not available to Shelby, but a well chosen direct fit transmission that gives smooth shifting and overdrive fifth gear. Combined with a new hydraulically operated performance clutch, makes this car a pleasure that could easily be driven on a daily basis.

A highlight of this vehicle are the updated new Wilwood front disc brake kit and rebuilt rear drum system with brand new tandem master cylinder and power servo combining to make an excellent , performance braking car. Equally, the steering has been transformed by fitting a power operated rack and pinion system developed in Australia. This transforms the car with easily managed direct steering having none of the "bump steer" long associated with older Mustangs. The race-bred power steering pump with remote reservoir being far superior to older Ford models.

Additional items fitted which improve the car over original are: New aluminium radiator,

Mustang insignia stereo with moulded kick panel speakers, Shelby Cobra Styled 17" x 8" wheels.

This car is fresh from a Mustang specialist‘s workshop after a most extensive build-up, and only a handful of shakedown miles for testing purposes. Supplied with a complete photographic record of its restoration, American Title papers and all EU Taxes paid.

A beautifully finished tribute to an American Legend, and one that out-performs the original in most areas, but can be used effortlessly on a regular basis.
