Gassers were hot rods originating on the drag strips across the U.S. from the 50's until the 1970's. They are based on production models from the 1930's to the mid-1960's that have been stripped of all frills and extra weight in order to improve performance. Engines are generally swapped for more powerful ones and the suspensions modified to provide better weight distribution on the race track under hard acceleration. This ex-drag car is an Oklahoma barn find and is powered by a small block Chevy with 350 Turbo transmission, and a 3500 stall converter. Modifications include a Pontiac dual gate lightning rod shifter, Pontiac rear end, Camaro front suspension with disc brakes, competition belts and a partial roll cage. A fiberglass hood reduces weight and exhausts now exit in front of the rear tires.
