The Mercedes-Benz 190SL is today what it was when introduced in 1954 at the New York Motor Show: a less expensive, more practical, and smaller version of the illustrious 300SL. However, certainly not lacking in any of its big brothers technical refinements, the 190SL offered plenty of capability and race-bred technology to those enthusiasts considering a sporting roadster. From its production in 1955 through its replacement with the 230SL in 1963, nearly 26,000 would be produced with only a fraction in existence today. The 190SL was also the start of the options list for Mercedes-Benz. Never before could a car be tailored like a fine suit the way a 190SL could have been. Everything from elaborate color schemes, tops, accessories such as luggage, seats, and even a very rare sports-racing option was available. These nimble little two-seat roadsters with their iconic, forward styling were the first Mercedes-Benz convertibles to hit home with the U.S. market and started a full-fledged frenzy, and one that has yet to end nearly six decades later. Impeccable styling, reliable performance, and incredible value for money, these 190SLs are quickly approaching a blue chip status amongst collector cars. They are a must have for any serious collector or enthusiast looking for a smart investment. The 190SL utilizes a 1.9-liter, 105-hp inline four-cylinder engine that is mated to a floor-mounted four-speed manual transmission. The Mercedes-Benz has power four-wheel drum brakes, bucket seats, full instrumentation (including tachometer and clock), white-toned boot for the retracted black canvas soft-top and radio. The roadster is finished in a desirable and complementary color combination of red with white/tan interior mixture. Tasteful whitewall tires add to the overall look in a period fashion. This stunning 190SL Roadster has been part of a museum collection for over 20 years. It is reported to have been totally restored about 15 years ago and has seen the road very few times. The museum was very attentive in starting and exercising the car regularly. The red finish is stated as excellent, as well as having the proper thick Mercedes-Benz leather all correct for this 190SL. The Haartz cloth convertible top is as new and is accompanied by an unrestored removable hardtop. The body-off restoration is fantastic and has maintained the quality like it was done yesterday.
