Porsche had established a reputation in the United States, beginning with the first 356 delivered stateside in 1950, largely cemented around smaller, lightweight cars with wonderful handling rather than raw power. While that reputation continued through early production of the 911, the introduction of the Turbo in 1975 signaled a radical shift. This would be Porsche's first turbocharged streetcar, it had prior experience with turbocharging in racing and the company finally felt that turbocharging was ready for public consumption. With a top speed of over 155-mph and a 0- to 60-mph time of just under five seconds, the 911 Turbo was not a car for the faint of heart. Its manic performance was supported by its incredible looks and the 911 Turbo quickly became the car to have in the late '70s and was poised to become a future collectable. While overseas the Porsche 930 was known simply as the 911 Turbo, these rare early US delivery examples were marketed and badged as the Turbo Carrera. According to its Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, it was born in the same color combination it wears today: Platinum Metallic over a Cinnamon leather interior. Outfitted with sport seats, factory sunroof, and light alloy Fuchs wheels painted in Comet Diamond, this car was purchased from its second owner in 1986 with only 22,000 miles on its odometer, as confirmed by a copy of the title from that year. Following a recent drive by an Auctions America car specialist, the car is said to be in excellent running condition and is one of those cars that just puts a smile on your face when you're behind the wheel. The interior is said to be in wonderful original condition and the radio, power antenna, and electric sunroof all work well. The original style air conditioning compressor and associated plumbing was updated to provide greater comfort and reliability. The engine was rebuilt and clutch was replaced approximately two years ago by the air-cooled Porsche specialists at Farmer's Automotive in Greenfield, IN and the car has accumulated just over 300 miles since then. Showing just less than 36,000 actual miles, the car is presented in largely original condition. It is believed to be wearing the majority of its original paint, aside from a few touch ups and a repaint of the tail due to age, as is common with these cars. It is also important to note that the car is accompanied by a spare tire and toolkit, as well as the aforementioned Certificate of Authenticity. Not only an icon of Porsche's engineering ingenuity, the first generation 911 Turbo has become one of Porsche's most recognizable and loved cars, not only for its incredible performance, but for its fantastic looks. This example is presented in wonderful highly original condition and checks all the right boxes. It would prove to be an excellent driver with its next fortunate owner.
