Known History

ASTON MARTIN DB2/4 MKI

– Mille Miglia eligible

– Superb color combination

– Just finished from restoration

– At the time of introduction, the fastest shooting brake in the world.

The DB 2/4 was introduced at the London Motor Show in 1953. The 2/4 was a development of the well received DB2.

The DB2/4 was to overcome the restrictions of a two seater with the addition of two occasional rear seats.

Luggage capacity also increased with access via a third door or tailgate featuring an enlarged rear window. The luggage space can be further enhanced by folding down the rear seats.

At the time, when three door cars were a rarity, this almost justified the comment, attributed to the Bentley Drivers Club, that the car was then the fastest shooting brake in the world.

The DB 2.6 engine is the production version of W.O. Bentley’s last brain child, conceived during the latter part of the second World War. With a capacity of 2,580 c.c. the Vantage engine was fitted as standard equipment.

In 1955 three Aston Martin DB2/4’s were prepared as works entries for the Monte Carlo Rally and won the team prize. Later that year two of the cars went on to compete in the Mille Miglia.

ABOUT THIS SPECIFIC EXAMPLE

This Aston Martin DB2/4 with chassis number LML 517 is one of the nicer DB2/4’s we have offered. The car is jut finished from a nice restoration.

A copy of the original build sheet/delivery note for this car shows that the car was delivered through Aston Martin dealer C. Williams Motors Limited in September 1953.

The purchaser was Mr. or Mrs. Seymour Smith.

Originally, the Aston was sold and deliver in Sea green but in 1958, the Aston went back to the factory and received a new color, this dime Thronley & Knights which was a dark blue gloss.

As described above, the Aston has just undergone an impressive restoration whereby the owner decided to spray the Aston in a fantastic Gunmetal Grey with dark red/oxblood leather.

The car has been taken completely apart and the result is impressive.

CONDITION EXTERIOR

When driving this Aston Martin, the reactions are fantastic. It seems as everybody becomes a classic car enthusiast as many people show their enthusiasm about the car. This is not strange because the looks are so fabulous.

Because of the impressive restoration, the Aston is in a very nice condition.

The chrome is extremely nice even as all the gaps. The Aston is fitted with very nice brand new painted wheels as well as brand new Avon Turbosteel tires.

When you look carefully behind the wheels in the wheel arches, one can see that the car is restored on a high level.

CONDITION INTERIOR

The interior is in beautiful condition. The car is not over the top restored which can be seen inside the car.

Things are correct, as they have to be but all new.

The instruments and controls are excellent, and there are no signs of modernization or other liberties taken.

The leather color is very nice and fits the gunmetal grey exterior color very well.

DRIVING EXPERIENCE

When the key of the Aston is turned, the engine starts easily and it become immediately clear that the engine is running very strong.

The power in the car is amazing, even as the handling.

As is often the case with classic cars of the era, they can be a bit weak in steering but this car is driving impressively straight.

The transmission shifts very well with good syncros, both when warm and cold.

The brakes are excellent as well.

This car feels as having a lot of money spend on it.

It is a very impressive example to drive around with.
