| 265bhp 3.8L inline six-cylinder engine, four-speed manual gearbox, four-wheel independent suspension and four-wheel drum brakes. Wheelbase: 96”
The Series 1 was introduced in March 1961, using the triple SU carburetted 3.8 litre 6-cylinder Jaguar XK6 engine from the XK150S. The first 500 cars built had flat floors and external hood (bonnet) latches. These cars are rare and more valuable. After that, the floors were dished to provide more leg room and the twin hood latches moved to inside the car. The 3.8 litre engine was increased to 4.2 litres in late 1964. All E-Types featured independent coil spring rear suspension with torsion bar front ends, and four wheel disc brakes, in-board at the rear, all were power-assisted. Jaguar was one of the first auto manufacturer to equip cars with disc brakes as standard from the XK150 in 1958. The Series 1 can be recognised by glass covered headlights (up to 1967), small "mouth" opening at the front, signal lights and tail-lights above bumpers and exhaust tips under the licence plate in the rear. This car is an early example that was delivered new as a black plate car to California. It has the flat floor and alluminum interior panels. Since restoration is been driven less than 200 miles and was the Best in Class winner at the 2005 JCNA Consours in Estes, Colorado scoring a very impressive 99.83 points! Restoration Mechanically, the 3.8L engine was rebuilt to factory specifications and calibrated. It was fitted with new pistons, bearings, valves, guides, seats, seals, and timing chan. The head was completely rebuilt, as were the carburetors, clutch system and brake systems. The driveshaft was balanced, new suspension installed, shocks restored and part of the chassis and many other parts were powder-coated. The under carriage was completely rebuilt, new wire harness installed, the gas tank restored and epoxy sealed, new aluminum radiator and fan installed, and the heater system and fuel pump were restored. All electrical components, gauges, knobsand switches were built, rescreened or replaced. The top bows and seat frames were powder coated, stone guards replaced, new Triplex windshield and door glass fitted, new drip panels, an exhaust system was installed, and the rear end was completely rebuilt along with the transmission. Cosmetically, the body was stripped to bare metal, repaired as needed, then epoxy sealed, painted, color sanded, and buffed. New rubbers, seals, grommets and gaskets were installed. Trim and brighwork was replaced or replated. A new proper interior, carpet panels and seats were all redone in black leather, all of which show no wear. One of the best restorations we have seen. Mechanically excellent and ideal for tours or shows its an excellent addition to any great car collection or a great start for the first time buyer.
