The cooper factory unveiled its new rear engine sport scar in November 1958, which was named the “Monaco” in honor of Trintignant’s victory there earlier this year. The car used a 4 cylinder Coventry Climax FPF engine. The technically advanced Cooper Monaco proved to be very successful both in Europe and America and it was produced until 1964. The CM/3/62 Has a full detailed history with no missing periods.

Chassis number CM/3/62 was bought by Alan Connell in 1962, of Fort Worth Texas. The current owner still holds the original invoice. Mr. Connell was a wealthy and serious racing driver, who owned many cars during his career. He purchased this T61 to compete in the very important sports car races of the early 1960’s. Mr. Connell raced at Riverside, Sebring to name a few against the top drivers at the time, such as McLaren, Branham, Moss and Hill.

To Harry Washburn, Louisiana 1963-65 Mr. Washburn also purchased the T-61 and the two Climax engines from Mr. Connell. He blew the 2.5 Climax at Sebring at the end of 1963. His mechanic Adrian Flores converted it to a 3litre Chevy with 4 speed Hewland gearbox, flared rear wings for lorger wheels and wider opening in the nose for better cooling. He ran them in several races including Opaluses and Mansfield.

To J.C. Ferguson Jr. of Louisiana 1965-67 J.C. Ran in minor races such as Valley Mills and Pensacola. He also changed the bodywork to new alloy body by Jack Lane Houston (original was left with him)

To Chuck Haynes of St Louis 1967-74 He was a car dealer who sold it in 1968 to someone from Long Island only to be bought back and resold in 1974.

Bruce Langson Houston Texas 1974-76 Bruce never raced this car

To Howard Eichenbaum of Little Rock Arkansas 1976-78 ran this Cooper in two races.

To Bud Ogle of Mansfield Texas 1978-90 Bud never raced but did remove the engine and the J Lane Body and sold it to the UK.

To Peter Blore Race parts of UK Oxford UK 1990-98 Peter traced back the history of the vehicle but did not restore it.

To John Harper, Morton on the March UK 1998-00 Mr. Harper re-bodied to correct body, restored parts of the chassis

Phillip Walker 2001-07 Mr. Walker had the car completely restored to its original Alan Connell Specs with 2.5 Climax and Cooper 5 Speed gearbox with pointed tail body in original dark blue with white roudels. The work was done by “Legends Racing Team” who contracted Ken Nichols to run the restoration.

The Current Owner, a Houston collector, purchased the car from Mr. Walker, and since then the T61 has been stored in THE VAULT, a climate controlled storage facility, in Houston, Texas
