In 1932, Ford blanketed much of the automobile market, offering models that ranged from basic coupes, roadsters and two-door sedans to more luxurious and well-appointed four-door sedans and convertible sedans. Most importantly, Ford had put high quality automobiles within reach of ordinary Americans with low prices and rock-solid reliability. For the company’s employees, a $5 daily wage meant that assembly workers could buy their own brand-new Fords with a few months’ earnings.

However, a full range of models was not what Henry Ford originally intended. His elemental philosophy was to produce as few variations as possible, working every cost down to the absolute minimum with standardization and refined, routine assembly practices. The automotive market was changing rapidly, and even at the beginning of the Depression, consumers’ needs and desires were becoming more specific. Thankfully, for today’s collectors and enthusiasts, Ford’s advisors prevailed, and models such as the DeLuxe Three-Window Coupe offered here were produced.

This award-winning DeLuxe example is handsomely finished in factory-correct Medium Maroon offset by black fenders, a black beltline rib, gold pinstriping and red painted steel wire wheels. Exterior accessories include dual cowl-mounted lights, bright hubcaps, a single windshield wiper, a rear-mounted spare tire with a metal cover, and a rumble seat. The attractive DeLuxe interior, featuring brown leather upholstery and woodgrain trim, is accented by light brown carpeting and remains in excellent condition, revealing few visible signs of wear. In addition, the woodgrain dash panel includes a glove box and contains an engine-turned insert panel for the instruments and controls. The engine compartment, as well as the undercarriage, remains in excellent, period correct and detailed condition, reflecting a high level of care and maintenance.

On the show field, this very fine 1932 Ford Coupe received a perfect score of 1,000 points in judging by the Early Ford V8 Club of America, and it holds the prestigious Dearborn Award. In AACA judging, the Coupe has received Senior National, Senior Grand National, and President’s Awards. It is a proven winner that is sure to draw attention on any future show field.
