Frank Kurtis’ designs dominated the American midget-racing circuit for 20 years. This example has unequalled provenance and has been raced by many of the sport’s great drivers. Restored to the highest standards, this car has received both AACA First Junior and First Senior awards. In 1953, Kurtis sold his midget-racer business to Indiana-based Johnny Pawl, and Pawl built Kurtis racers into the early 1960s. This example was bought by Milt Smith of New York and raced by Ray Brown, Dickie Brown, Len Duncan, King Carpenter, Len Thrall, Bill Eldridge, Ron Evans, George Monsen, Bobby Albert, Don Keits Sr., Lou Fray, Earl Halaquist, and Dutch Schaefer. Joe Fiore restored this car to 1963 specification, and the motor was built by a noted Offenhauser expert, Ken Hickey. Among the many original parts retained by this Kurtis Kraft Midget Racer are the Halibrand quick-change rear end, fuel tank, oil tank, and body components. It has Halibrand disc brakes, Halibrand wheels, period Houdaille shock absorbers, a Norden steering box, and new torsion bars. The chassis has been powder-coated and original parts have been crack-checked. In 2007, Milt Smith inspected the car and confirmed it as authentic. A written declaration to this effect is included in an impressive file of documentation. This Offy-powered Midget Racer presents a rare opportunity to acquire a charming piece of American motorsport history touched by many racing heroes.
