Chevrolet’s long-running Corvette enjoyed a banner year in 1963, introducing the all-new Stingray body style and mechanical innovations like independent rear suspension and pop-up headlamps. This wonderfully original example of the first-year Stingray Coupe highlights all of the model’s celebrated features, including the one-year-only rear split-window – a feature that has become an icon of American automotive design. Delivered new to Hugh White Chevrolet in Columbus, Ohio, this Corvette was factory-equipped with an M20 four-speed gearbox and the desirable solid-lifter L76 V-8, the second-most-powerful engine available in 1963. Finished in distinctive Saddle Tan, the Corvette was generously optioned with sintered metallic brakes, power windows, a Positraction rear axle, and whitewall tires, while the interior featured amenities such as AM/FM radio and leather upholstery. Retained for 22 years by its first owner, this Stingray was subsequently sold to a marque enthusiast and presented at Corvette events, earning a prestigious NCRS Top Flight and MCACN Heritage Awards. According to the consignor, a well-known and respected Corvette collector, this unrestored Split Window retains original finishes and displays factory-inspection markings.
