1978 Porsche 930
| Porsche’s 911-based 930 Turbo was released in the spring of 1975, with US exports commencing in 1976. Swift development brought substantial power increases and even greater performance by 1978, with the addition of an air-to-air inter cooler, enlarged displacement to 3.3 liters, and upgraded braking and cooling. A standout in its day, it remains a true object of automotive desire.
Ordered new by Mick Williams, former president of the Porsche Club of America, this highly original turbo was factory-finished under Porsche’s bespoke “Color to Sample” program in Mr. Williams’ personally selected Mediterranean Blue. Built during January 1978, and sequentially the 186th of the 461 turbos allocated to the US market for the 1978 model year, this 930 was complemented by a blue leather interior and optioned with heated/electrically adjustable outside mirrors, sport seats, and a power sunroof. Mr. Williams took European Delivery in Germany and had the turbo shipped to the US via Norm Bishop Porsche-Audi in Boise, Idaho, where Mr. Williams was a principal, with arrival in late April or early early May 1978.
This unique 930 carries a known ownership history from new and is accompanied by an extensive file containing service and maintenance records spanning 1981-2015, articles on Mr. Williams, the original window sticker, and a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, plus a tool kit, original owner’s manual, and service booklet.
