As with the 330 America, the 330 GT 2 2 featured a magnificent four-liter V-12 and delivered power to the rear wheels through a four-speed gearbox with overdrive. With its slim roof pillars, airy greenhouse, and long hood, the elegant design of the 330 GT 2 2 was undoubtedly a credit to Pininfarina, though the initial four-headlight arrangement was not universally beloved. For 1965, the 330 GT 2 2 Series II debuted – a development of Ferrari’s Earls Court Show car – and brought with it a couple of notable improvements. Visually, it returned to Ferrari’s classic two-headlight arrangement and brought along many carefully considered detail changes. Among the revisions were updated turn signals, fuel filler relocation to the driver’s side, three-piece bumpers with rubber-faced guards, and standard cast alloy wheels, though wire wheels were available on request. Mechanically, the Series II 330 GT 2 2’s powertrain benefited from a modernized five-speed gearbox and a variety of minor improvements. Handsome, comfortable, and relatively spacious inside, the 330 GT 2 2 Series II was a grand tourer par excellence, capable of exceeding 140 mph. One of just 424 left-hand-drive Series II models built, 08325 was, according to the 330 GT registry, originally finished in the attractive color scheme of blue with gray leather upholstery. Delivered new to a Mr. Simons in San Francisco, California, the Ferrari eventually relocated to Southern California and spent more than a decade in the care of Thomas Mirich Jr. It is believed that the Ferrari was restored during his ownership, and it has been maintained in East Coast collections over the past 15 years. Even today, the Ferrari presents very well and is particularly striking in its blue over gray color scheme, complemented by optional Borrani wire wheels. In light of its attractive presentation, it is no surprise that this car was chosen by Ferrari North America to take part in the 2003 debut of the 612 Scaglietti – the 330 GT 2 2’s modern day counterpart. An effortless and impressive touring car, this 330 GT 2 2 Series II would make an ideal choice for Ferrari Club of America shows and rallies, as well as long-distance driving tours such as the Copperstate 1000. In short, 08235 perfectly embodies the sophistication and many enduring virtues of the classic V-12 Ferrari GT experience and, given its relatively approachable price of entry, deserves serious consideration.
