195 bhp, 2,418 cc dohc V-6 engine, five-speed manual transaxle, four-wheel independent suspension with A-arms, coil springs and Koni telescopic shock absorbers, four-wheel ventilated disc brakes. Wheelbase: 2,340 mm (92.1 in.)

In order to honour the memory of his late son and continue his developmental work on a new V-6 engine, Enzo Ferrari directed Vittorio Jano to finish Dino’s project, creating a series of very successful engines that powered various Ferrari Formula 1, 2 and sports-racing cars over the years.

Ferrari subsequently built a prototype six-cylinder production model, the Dino 206S, which was unveiled at Paris in 1965, followed by the Dino Berlinetta GT at Turin the following year. It was not only Ferrari’s first mid-engine production car, but also marked the debut of a new Ferrari-based Dino brand that was entirely devoid of Ferrari badging. In 1969, the Dino received a larger and more powerful 2,418 cc engine, and its reported 146 mph top speed and race-inspired handling quickly impressed Ferrari fans. With production of approximately 3,800 examples continuing through 1974, the Dino 246 was available both as a hardtop GT and a targa-style GTS.

This particular Dino 246 GTS, chassis no. 05104, was imported new into France in October 1972 through official importer Charles Pozzi SA of Levallois-Perret. Originally finished in white with a black vinyl interior, it was sold new in France. While its early ownership history is currently unknown, by 1985 it had been repainted Rosso Corsa. Owned by a Monsieur Vermont of Lille, the car resided in northern France near the Belgian border.

In 1996, Vermont sold the car to another Lille resident named M. Lepez. It was then purchased by Willy Smessaert of Eeklo, Belgium, who owned the car until 2007, at which point it was sold to the German vendor, a very active member of the German Ferrari Club who enjoyed several classic car meetings in the car. Nicely presented in red with a largely original interior, this Dino 246 GTS genuinely delivers the driving sensation only offered by a Ferrari. As its popularity continues to grow, it is the GTS variant, which was produced in lower numbers, that remains a favourite among cognoscenti and a trailblazer of the production mid-engined modern Ferrari.
