Officially introduced at the Paris Salon in October 1975, the 308 GTB's styling was all new but incorporated all of the old magic by blending aspects of the Dino 206/246 with the later 365 GT4/BB. Reminiscent of the Boxer was the dihedral groove at bumper level splitting top and bottom, the plunging nose and the sail panels reaching back to meet a shallower spoiler, while the conical side air intakes and recessed concave rear window were familiar from the Dino. The very first 308 GTB's produced, until the end of 1976, were the fastest and best handling, thanks to a fibreglass body that weighed substantially less than the steel coachwork which replaced it. These first cars also featured race-bred dry sump lubrication, which again was replaced after a short period in favour of the less expensive wet sump system. For both of these reasons the first 308 GTB's are the most sought-after nowadays and are justly regarded as the finest of the 308/328 range.

This example presented here today left the Ferrari factory on the 19th October, 1979 and comes with a recorded low milage of just 25,000. With the steering wheel and pedals to be found on the lefthand side it benefits from being one of the earlier cars supplied with a dry sump carburettor and a sports exhaust. This car was sold new by Ferrari agents, Charles Pozzi in Antibes in the South of France in November 1979. The present owner has had the car for the last 18 years during which time it has, it is reported, proved to be a most reliable and well sorted car. It has always been garaged and used only on dry summer days. The bodywork is gleaming Rossa Corsa with a near immaculate contrasting black leather interior. The tyres are the correct Michelin XWX type as fitted by Ferrari when new. All the previous documentation for the last 18 years is available for scrutiny in the comprehensive history filed accompanying the car including bills for parts and all the old MoT's. This fine example benefits from a recent cambelt service, new rear shock absorbers, driveshaft boots and new water pump and bearings. With fresh tax and MoT, GCF 521V is more than ready to take advantage of the delightfully clement Autumn months.
