The E-Type first appeared in 1961 and took the motoring world by storm. It represented a major step forward, offering unprecedented performance with relative sophistication and a body of sensational beauty. It was also astounding value at only £2,196.

Initially the car used the well-proven 3.8-litre XK engine; this was soon replaced by the 4.2 litre unit, but the idea of a V12 engine had been in the minds of Jaguar since the mid-1950s when Ferrari successfully employed such a configuration. In 1971 Jaguar's V12 unit finally became available in the E-Type, setting new standards of refinement and flexibility whilst restoring the 140mph plus performance of the original model.

Honour and performance were restored: 145mph and 0-60 and 0-100 in 6.5 and 15.8 seconds respectively. With 272bhp at 5,850rpm and 3041b.ft at 3,600rpm, the V12 was also incredibly refined and flexible and it is still regarded as one of the finest ever production engines. The Series 3 E-Type also boasted improved grip courtesy of wider wheels and tires, anti-dive front suspension, ventilated front disc brakes and an 18 gallon fuel tank, while the bonnet sported a discreet spoiler and larger grille.

This Right Hand Drive Series 3 manual example is finished in Teal Blue with Black interior and comes with optional factory hardtop. Purchased new by Mr Brown on 1st November 1973, he enjoyed the car for over 30 years before deciding to sell the car earlier this year. It is a therefore a genuine two owner car from new and the mileage, which currently stands at 42,400 miles, is verified by the numerous MoT certificates that date back to 1982.

The history file is complete with various servicing invoices from the early eighties through to date. In recent years the car has been maintained by Kent High Performance Cars, who have serviced the car regularly and reconditioned many parts including the fitment of a stainless steel exhaust system and Thatcham Catagory 2 immobiliser and many other ancillaries with invoices showing all works completed. Offered today with a fresh MOT until August 2007, road fund licence, V5 and all original owners handbooks / operating and service manuals this delightful roadster represents an opportunity to acquire a genuine low mileage example with low ownership that has always been well looked after.
