1932 Austin Seven Special for Pre War Austin Seven Club Bert Hadley Championship, 750 Motor Club Triple Challenge and other events. The car was built as a special by the Cowleys (father and son), possibly during the 1970s. The current owner bought it in project form and completely stripped and rebuilt it including extensively modifying the Bowdenex independent front suspension to lighten the car and improve the handling. He had the engine built by A7 expert Tim Myell. It includes a Phoenix crank, Austin connecting rods with Honda lightweight pistons, big inlet vales, a Tim Myell camshaft, raised compression, electronic ignition and an electric water pump. A documented Sun engine power test recorded 37.5 bhp at just under 7,000 rpm giving a theoretical top speed of approx. 92 mph. It has a 3 speed gearbox with ratios calculated by Tony Griffin and gears made by Vince Leek connected to a 5.125 back axle. The racing clutch and lightened flywheel were supplied by Mark Roper. It has Morris Minor hydraulic brakes with braided hoses. New brake shoes were fitted. It has a 12 volt electric start and come with two lightweight batteries complete with charger. It has two sets of fully rebuilt 15ö wheels fitted with new rims and spokes. The centres have been crack tested and spun to check accuracy. NB It comes with a covered trailer. The car, which has an RAC competition log book, is eligible for the Pre War Austin Seven club Bert Hadley Trophy and the 750 Motor Club Triple Challenge as well as many other club invitation events. Its line of development is such that it is unlikely to be eligible for VSCC events. So far this year so it has run at Curborough, Gurston Down, Wiscombe Park, Shelsey Walsh, Loton Park and Prescott. The car, which is definitely aimed at competition not concours events, is ready to race!
