1961 Aston Martin DB4 Just finished full body and mechanical restorationSOLD
I am selling a DB4 just out of restoration that I bought last year intending to convert it into a Zagato. Once stripped it was found to be in far too good a condition to chop up so I had Aston Motorsport (Mike Dowd) rebuild it with the intention to use it until I found another donor car for the Zagato project. I have now found the donor car and so this car - looking fantastic as it is straight out of restoration - is for sale at north of £130k. The car is a 1960 Series 2 DB4, engine bored to 4.2 with triple carbs giving around 300 bhp. The car is dark metallic green with original fawn hide leather. Find below a summary of the resoration work done over the last six months; -Stripped to bare metal, all body rot dealt with, new B posts made. -Chassis checked, found to be very sound as resored by Bodylines in mid 90's. -Engine bay stripped and detailed. -Stainless steel exhaust. -Dash rebuilt, re-sprayed and re-trimmed, new roof lining fitted. -Wilton carpets 2 years old. -Boot re-trimmed, new polka dot door trims, re-trimmed parcel shelf. -New windscreen. -Bumpers and other parts re-chromed by London Chroming. -Neg earth, alternator, Luminition ignition system. - Hi-torque starter. -Becker radio with bluetooth and Ipod. -Complete engine rebuild, Cosworth pistons, gas flowed head, lead free. -SU carbs reconditioned. -Gearbox rebuilt, new layshaft and bearings, Borg & Beck clutch rebuilt. -Steering rack rebuilt and steering joints replaced. -Twin speed Kenlow, full flow oil cooler and radiator recored. -Brake lines replaced, calipers upgraded to GT, servo rebuilt. -Hubs, bushes, bearings, axle all overhauled. -New chrome wheels and tyres. -Anderson Jack Plug system. -New seat belts from Aston Martin. The car will have a 6 month guarantee from Aston Motorsport and they will do the first service for free. The car comes with a comprehensive history file. The car was built in December 1960 and, unusually, sold directly to a Mr Butler who was living in the USA. The car was RH drive and was exported with a UK registration number which it retains today. There is a long record of the factory work on the car running up to 1975. These records shows a new engine was fitted in 1973 which explains the engine number. In 1994 the car had extensive chassis and sill repairs carried out by Goodwood Green and Bodylines - probably the premier Aston body specialist. In 1996 Goldsmith and Young started looking after the car and further work was done. Bills from these companies total over £20,000. The recent work was done by Aston Motorsport Limited, work started mid 2008 and has just been finished. This company prepares my racing Astons so as a regular customer I was able to get the work done at a good deal less than it would normally cost but the bills still came to well over £40,000. The work was finished in early April 2009 and the car has done less than 500 miles since.
If interested e-mail me at robertrawe@aol.com or call me on 07880 747 559, the car is in central London. Robert Rawe
