The gorgeous Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta Lusso is generally regarded as having been one of the most exquisitely proportioned and most beautiful of all the Pininfarina styling creations on the legendary front-engined Ferrari 250 GT chassis. These were classic high-performance gran turismo cars with a difference, for they combined power and speed with the highest contemporary levels of elegance and comfortable accommodation for two, plus their luggage.

The stunning Lusso presented here is a very early example indeed. Its chassis frame was sent to Carrozzeria Scaglietti in January 1963 before the car was completed in April of that year as the 14th Lusso built. Sold by SEFAC S.p.A., the first owner was Malvasia Gabrielli Della Serra Riuniti, resident in Bologna. Between April and September 1963, the car was serviced at the factory’s Assistenza Clienti before being sold in May the following year through Ferrari agent Mario Camellini to the second owner, one Dr. Urfer, resident in Corsier, Switzerland, which is in the canton of Geneva.

Chassis 4405 GT remained in Switzerland for a long period of time and was owned by Dr. Urfer until 1999 – a remarkable 35 years! He in turn sold the car to another Swiss doctor and it has since remained in and around Geneva. Whilst in its present ownership, the engine was totally overhauled and the car was recently repainted in its original colour Rosso Rubino by Carrosserie BinggeliSA in Nyon, Switzerland. During this restoration work, all the bright work was removed and redone to stunningly lustrous effect, new Borrani wire wheels were fitted and the interior was re-trimmed to original specification by the world renowned specialists at Luppi in Modena, Italy.

The Lusso proved to be the last of Ferrari’s long-lived 250 GT series. Conceived and executed as a luxury gran turismo, its success was attributable to the seamless blend of competition racing performance and sexy Italian styling – a winning combination exemplified by this highly desirable and beautifully presented example.
