Prowler first appeared as a concept car at the 1993 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Favourable response prompted the former Chrysler Corporation to unveil a production version of Plymouth Prowler at the 1996 North American International Auto Show. Official production for Plymouth Prowler began in July, 1997 as a 1997 model at Conner Avenue Assembly Plant in Detroit. The Prowler features a 3.5-litre, 24 valve sequential multi-point electronic fuel injection, 60-degree single overhead cam, all-aluminium V6 engine that produces 253 horsepower at 6400 rpm, and 255 lb.-ft. of torque at 3950 rpm. In addition, the Prowler’s electronic four-speed rear-wheel drive automatic transaxle features an AutoStick shifter, which allows the driver to shift gears by simply tapping the gear lever.

Visually, Prowler pays tribute to the rolling art of hot rods. Prowler also embodies some of the most advanced technology and materials, and has the distinction of being North America’s most aluminium-intensive vehicle. To date, the Prowler has cruised into the hearts and garages of more than 11,000 passionate automotive enthusiasts throughout North America.

At its launch, Plymouth stated that the Prowler was a development of the Dodge Viper; it was the next step in the process of developing new methods of manufacture and assembly to lower the cost of a vehicle. The corporation did not care if they made money, simply breaking even was considered unlikely as the Prowler was to be an experimental vehicle testing out even more advanced methods of assembly, featuring, for example, aluminium and composite bonding. The Prowler was undoubtedly a styling departure for the company, and succeeded in attracting levels of publicity for the range for which they could hardly have dared hope.

Only a small number of these exclusive cars have found their way in to Europe making them a rare and very eye catching sight on the roads of the continent. Imported from the Unites States and registered in Great Britain, this car is described as being in excellent all round condition by the vendor. With recent service history, just 25,000 miles recorded and only 346 made in this colour, the car also comes with its correct owners manual, service history and the UK V5C logbook as well as the US certificate of title. It should be noted that this example is a Chrysler Prowler and not the former incarnation, Plymouth. It is also a ‘Final Edition’ model which includes such extras as additional composite body panels to cover the areas should you wish to take the bumpers off, a rear spoiler, Borla exhaust and an upgraded sound system. This is the very best this car can be and with no more to come, represents a great opportunity to purchase a very fine example of a truly 20th century Hot Rod.
