Known History

1975 Porsche 911 3.0 RSR

s/n 9115609122

Period Livery with White Interior

Since its inception the 911 has been modified by the factory for various competition uses including endurance circuit racing, rallying, sprint races The 911 is often cited as the most successful competition car ever, and the normally aspirated 911 Carrera RSR in the mid 1970 won major world championship sports car races such as Targa Florio, Daytona, Sebring and Nürburgring. Factory built Carrera RSR 3.0s were sold to established and proven race teams for competition both Stateside and on the European continent

This example was sold new to Jim Busby by Vasek Polak Racing. Included with the car is documentation from Porsche confirming this as a factory built 1975 3.0 RSR racecar. Busby used the car throughout the 1975 season with considerable success. At the end of the 1976 the car was sold to Monte Shelton who modified the roll cage and installed more advanced Schrick cams bringing the horsepower output to 365bph and tub weight down to 2,000 lbs. Shelton sold the car to privateer competitor Robert Frostrom who continued to race the car in professional events through the 1978 season. Frostrom sold the car onward to Bill Ferran who used it in Sports Car Club of America national level events in 1979 winning twice at Moroso from the pole position. In 1980 and 1981, wearing 935 style bodywork, the car again saw competition in a professional venue when it was campaigned at the famed 12 Hours of Sebring by Ferran/Bond/Refenning finishing 10th in class.

The car has recently seen a comprehensive restoration returning the car to original RSR specifications. Since restoration the car has seen successful outings in the vintage racing world at the Monterey Historic Automobile Races in 2006, 2007, and 2008 among other events. The car has approximately 10 events on the chassis since restoration, zero time on a fresh valve job, approximately 6 hours on the lower end rebuilt by David Loop in Monterey, California, and equal time on a rebuilt transmission. Other recent work includes: a complete professional chassis set-up with new rear shocks and springs, front springs, and new rear sway bar. New steering shaft bushings and bearings were installed, the distributor was rebuilt with a new ignition rotor, rebuilt front strut cartridges, installed new steering rods & links, replaced rear trailing arm (front) pivot bearings, and the CV joints serviced.

Today the car can be described as a very well prepared and maintained example with excellent racing cosmetics fit to be raced or shown. The talented team at D’Motorsports of Monterey, California have serviced and raced prepped the car in a no expense spared fashion throughout the current ownership period.
