Known History

1968 MORRIS MINOR 1000 2 DOOR SEDAN

Chassis no: MA2S5 1206382M

Engine no: 10MAUH 293124

Roy Savage has always had a passion for Morris Minors, his mother Maude having driven them for many years throughout his childhood. Roy obtained his licence at 15 years of age and used to drive himself to school in his mother’s car. His father Roy, often traded his Morris Minors believing they should not really be kept for more then 20,000 miles. Being an avid tennis player, he drove extensively to and from tournaments in the Morris Minors over the years and understandably didn’t like being passed by Volkswagen beetles which had the advantage up the winding hilly roads around Wellington.

It is doubtful that a standard VW beetle in 1956 would have had better performance than the newly-released Morris Minor 1000 as this model boasted many improvements from the earlier Series II.

The engine was now 948cc (previously 800cc) and the developed horse power had increased from 30 to 37bhp. In addition, the new gearbox featured a higher- ratio 3rd gear which would have been quite a boon on the hills in Wellington.

Five individual Morris Minor models were catalogued in 1968 – the 2-door sedan, 4-door sedan, Convertible, Traveller and the Utility. The 4 door sedan was responsible for more than 50% of sales alone making the 2 door much harder to find today.

A centre piece of the Savage Collection this sweet duck-egg blue 2 door example was first registered new in New Zealand to Mr. Thomas Murray of Tauranga, in February 1968. It was then traded by Elgin Motors in 1983 and purchased by Mr. Stephen Poole with 18,750 miles on the clock. It remained in his ownership until 1991 when it changed ownership with 19,237 miles on the clock to Mr. Reed Milton in March, 1991. It came in to the careful ownership of Roy Savage in January, 1992 with a mere 19,379 miles accrued where it has been carefully maintained. It has been used sparingly and carefully and the odometer reading is now approx. 22,200 miles. The car presents with matching blue upholstery and powder blue carpets.

This vehicle will be sold licenced with WoF.
